I love the challenges faced in the design and remodelling of homes. In amny cases, we need to act as a forensic builder to determine what and how and why prior work was done. I also enjoy seeing my client's enjoyment when their project is finished.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, we discuss the clients needs and wants. We review the existing home to determine if their desires can be met. From the initial meeting, we develop a preliminary estimate to determine if the project is feasible. If we proceed, we refine the Scope of Work, specifications and budget. Assuming a positive, we proceed to the timing and construction agreement.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My undergraduate education was at Stanford University. I received an MBA from UCLA. Following a successful career in finance, elected to become a builder. I worked for a construction company during Summer vacations from college and have modeled my business in a simialr manner. I have been a member of the Master Builders Assn. of King and Snohomish Counties for over 30 years. We have been awarded top honors in three past Seattle Street of Dreams.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Every project is different. The size and specifications vary greatly. We estimate our project costsusing a format that accounts for most every and any cost element to be encountered.
How did you get started in this business?
I simply got tired of the corporate world and its many issues. I was fortunate enough to start doing land development, then building spec homes, custom homes, remodeling and some commercial work. Consequently, we have experience in almost every type and aspect of construction and the various challenges faced to develop effective solutions.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with every type of client in our 33 years. Some have become close friends and we have done many different projects for them. We have worked on small jobs and have worked on multi-million dollar projects taking several years to complete.
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
Personally, I like to cook so naturally designing and building/remodeling kitchens is a favorite. I also like working on detailed and complex components. We have specialized in providing high-end quality from the start. We strive to provide the best quality employees, materials and subcontractors to achieve that goal.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Have some good chemistry with your contractor. Be able to freely exchange ideas and thoughts. Most projects are difficult for homeownwes to live through without some stress. Make sure you contractor understands this and is willing to work with you during the process.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Develop some good ideas of what you really want and need included in your project. The more specific that you can be, the better direction the contractor can provide. Have pictures of what you like...and don't like. Any project is a collaborative effort between the homeowner and the contractor. The more information you can provide the better outcome for your project. Also, don't be deceived by the home improvement TV shows. Construction is a process that needs to follow a certain path.
