Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Washer and Dryer Repair Services questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does washer and dryer repair cost near me?

Washing machine repair costs $100 to $400 to replace most parts. Dryer repair costs $100 to $300 on average. Dryer vent cleaning costs $80 to $250 to clear out clogged air ducts that cause dryer damages and fire hazards.

How long does a washing machine or dryer last?

A washing machine or dryer typically lasts 8 to 13 years. High-quality brands that receive ongoing maintenance will last the longest.

Make washing machines and dryers last longer by:

  • Cleaning the vent ducts and lint trap regularly
  • Not loading up the machines past their capacity
  • Keeping the machines on a level surface
  • Studying the routine maintenance directions in the manual

What are signs my washer or dryer needs repair?

Signs that your washer or dryer needs repairs include:

  • Loud thumping or unusual noises when the machines are on
  • Failure to turn on or spin while running
  • Water leaks from the washer
  • Smells of smoke from the dryer or mildew from the washer
  • Washer drum not filling with water or not draining after the cycle
  • Excessive vibration or shaking of the machines
  • Circuit breaker tripping when you switch on either laundry machine
  • Error codes on the control panel

Is it worth repairing a washer or dryer?

Repairing a washer or dryer is worth it if they are less than 4 to 7 years old and the damage is minor. Fixing these machines is also cost-effective if repair fees are less than half the price of a replacement, or if the warranty is still valid.

Should I repair or replace my washer and dryer?

You should repair your washer or dryer if the work costs $100 to $400. Consider replacing laundry machines if repairs cost more than $500 per unit. New washer and dryer prices are $1,000 to $2,300 per set on average.

Who repairs washers and dryers?

Contractors who repair washers and dryers include:

  • Appliance-repair technicians
  • A plumber to fix piping leaks from connections to the washer
  • An electrician if the wiring is faulty
  • Appliance specialists referred by home improvement stores
  • A handyman for basic repairs

Before hiring a repair technician, remember to verify that they have a license, surety bonds, NASTeC certification, and insurance. Their reviews on Google and HomeGuide will show you their reputation. When comparing quotes, beware of the lowest prices that typically signal low-quality work.

When the technician arrives, get a signed copy of the contract before work starts. Don't give the full payment until the job is complete.

What questions do I ask a washer and dryer repair service?

  • How long have you been repairing washers and dryers?
  • Have you worked on my appliance brand before?
  • How long will this work take?
  • Will my appliance warranty cover the cost of this repair?
  • What can I do to prevent future problems like this?
  • Does this estimate list all materials, labor, and cleanup fees?
  • Will you inspect the dryer, washer, and connections to check for other problems?
  • When should I replace my washer or dryer?
  • How much do weekend or after-hours repairs cost?
  • Will you need to order replacement parts?
  • What's in your warranty?
