What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
First of all meet in person to determine if the Contractor will be a good fit for you and understands what you want to accomplish with your project.
Look at prior projects and ask questions to gauge personality and experience of the Contractor.
Remember, this person will have access to your home and family
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
First of all have a good idea of your budget and the expectation in mind for your finished project.
If you will be doing an interior remodel, are you comfortable with strangers being in your house? Will you be occupying the house while construction is on-going?
Ask the Contractor for proof of liability insurance and licenses if needed.
Be cautious with "low bidders", more than likely they will be taking shortcuts somewhere down the line or will add excessive charges for any "change order" or additional work.
Make sure you feel comfortable with the Contractor and are willing to let him take control of the project.
Ensure the Contractor listens to you and understands your vision and expectations for the project.
