Eugene H. says, "Forewarning Im not the best at typing so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors! Owner Justin was great!I have become quite the skeptic because customer service and quality just isn't like it was 20, 30, 40 year back. But I chose this contractor cause His initial email stood out and was very informative, professinal, and well spoken. And very fast response time. He cold sense my skepticism so he provided us with an abundance of credentials from electrical, property management and construction design license and certifications, several awards hes achieved, copy of insurance, simple but effective contract and references, receipts, the whole nine. Communication is huge to me and he was very attentive, knowledgeable, listens very well, and made sure to deliver exactly what i requested. My only complaint for giving- 4 stars- wasnt directed towards Justin. It was cause a guy working for him was on his phone a lot when Justin wasnt looking but I made justin aware of this and he dealt with the issue immediately and we had no more issues. Would definitely recommmend his services. Im glad to provide reference and any questions (937)583-3100 " Read more

Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Countertop Installation questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does countertop installation cost?

When it comes to countertop installation, the cost can vary quite a bit, but here’s a general idea of what you might expect. The average cost of countertops is $50 to $150 per square foot installed, which translates to an overall average cost of $1,500 to $6,000, depending on the size of your kitchen and the specific material you choose.

The cost per square foot is a big factor, as different materials have different price tags. For instance, granite and quartz are on the higher end, while laminate and ceramic are more budget-friendly. And don't forget about additional costs like edge treatments, backsplash installations, and removing the old countertops – these extra expenses can add up quickly.

What is the average price of granite countertops installed?

The cost of granite countertops can vary quite a bit, depending on the size, thickness, and grade of the granite. On average, you can expect to pay $80 to $150 per square foot for materials and installation labor. Higher-end materials and complex kitchen layouts can cost even more.

For a typical kitchen, the total cost can range from $2,400 to $6,000. This estimate covers the entire process, from selecting and cutting the granite to the final installation. The variation in cost is largely due to the different grades of granite available, with higher-end options featuring unique patterns and colors that come at a premium. Despite the investment, granite countertops can significantly enhance the aesthetic and value of your home.

Do you tip countertop installers?

Tipping countertop installers is not typical, but it can be a thoughtful way to show appreciation for their work. If the installers have done an exceptional job, completing the work on time, leaving your space clean, and being particularly helpful, a tip might be in order. Consider the quality of service and whether they went above and beyond your expectations.

There's no fixed rule on how much to tip, but a common practice is to tip 10-20% of the total labor cost or a flat amount per installer, such as $10 to $20 per person. If tipping isn't within your budget, you can show your appreciation in other ways, like offering refreshments during the installation, writing a positive review, or recommending the installers to others.

How do you install countertops?

The process of installing new countertops involves several steps. It starts with templating, where measurements are taken to create a template of your kitchen space. Next comes the layout phase, where the template is used to figure out how the stone will be cut and shaped. Then there's fabrication, where the stone is cut, edged, and polished according to the template and layout.

After fabrication, the old countertops are removed (if you're replacing them), and the new ones are installed. This includes leveling and securing the countertops, applying epoxy to seams, and installing any necessary features like sinks and faucets. Finally, the countertops might need sealing to protect them from stains and spills, and any plumbing is reconnected.

Does Home Depot install countertops?

Home Depot does offer countertop installation services, which can be convenient for those looking for a one-stop solution. However, it's important to note that these installations are often outsourced to third-party contractors. This can lead to variability in the quality of the work, as the subcontractors may be working to meet the lowest bid rather than focusing on exceptional craftsmanship. The use of third-party installers can also make it more challenging to address any issues that arise during or after the installation.

How do I choose a countertop installer?

Selecting the right countertop installer can make all the difference in your renovation project. Consider the following:

  • Reputation and reviews: Check online reviews on HomeGuide and Google, ask for referrals, and look at their track record.
  • Experience and expertise: Ensure they have extensive experience with various countertop materials.
  • Transparent pricing: Get detailed quotes that include all costs and compare bids from multiple installers with the same quality of materials.
  • Warranties: Look for installers who offer warranties on their work.
  • Licenses and insurance: Verify their licenses and insurance to protect yourself from potential liabilities.
  • Communication and timeliness: Assess their communication skills and ability to meet your timeline.
  • In-home estimates: Have them visit your home for accurate measurements and a detailed discussion of their process.

What questions should I ask a countertop installer?

Ask these questions when hiring a countertop installer:

  • How long have you been installing countertops?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • What types of countertops do you install?
  • How long does the installation process take?
  • Can you provide a detailed estimate?
  • What is included in the cost?
  • Do you offer a warranty on your work?
  • How will you communicate with me during the project?
  • Can you commit to a specific timeline?
  • What safety protocols do you follow during installation?
  • Can you show me samples of your finished work?
