About

I provide personalized service that's often not possible with larger companies. I can do large jobs or small, including tiny repairs and unusual situations.

In additon, I have over 35 years experience installing, sanding and finishing wood floors and operating my one person shop in the East Bay.

It is extremely satisfying to make huge improvements to a space in a relatively short amount of time. I also enjoy working on unusual wood floor projects--often very small--that satisfy the customer's desire to "finally get that done", meaning some tiny flaw or situation that has bugged them for a long time.

I've even had more than one customer tell me that I had "made their dream come true"! THAT is satisfaction!

    Frequently asked questions

First is a personal meeting to discuss the scope and details of the project and to inspect the existing conditions.  Once my bid is accepted, there may be other details related to the work itself or to logistics that may have to be worked out.

I learned this trade from my father, who operated a hardwood floor business in San Francisco 1949-2000. (!!!)

I have been operating my own business in the East Bay since 1995.

Per square foot prices tend to fluctuate, but once I see a job, I can usually provide a reliable quote that very seldom requires adjustment.

Smaller jobs are usually done on an hourly basis.

Most of my customers are homeowners.  I also work with several general contractors on remodel or addtion projects.

Recently worked for a customer who had purchased a quantity of re-claimed gym flooring.  I installed it in her hall and kitchen, paint stripes and all.  It made for a very interesting effect!

IF you are a homeowner, then most importantly, hire someone with whom you feel comfortable personally.  Floor work can be very disruptive in your home, so that creates a little stress.  You want someone who hears your concerns and responds to them.

Also, get some references, and call them.

Do your best to know what it is you want. Think about the logistics involved.  Floor work usually requires empty rooms.  Think about how that would work.

Talk on the phone before having someone come out to look at your work. Many general questions can be answered by phone, saving time for both you and the pro.  Because of the nuances involved, a phone call usually works better than text or email.
