Colonial Tree Service
About
Family-owned and operated. Colonial is a full-service tree management firm that provides tree planting, tree maintenance, and tree removal services to clients throughout Waukesha County and surrounding communities.
We partner with clients to ensure their particular needs and objectives are achieved. Our team is made up of ISA Certified Arborists that are passionate about the proper care and maintenance of trees - preserving our urban forests for generations to come.
In addition to our professional credentials, we are a safety-oriented business. Tree care requires the expertise of trained professionals who are aware of and capable of mitigating risks.
We are fully licensed and insured (liability & workman's comp) and have new and well-maintained trucks and equipment. Our crews are clean-cut, courteous, professionals. We pay our employees a living wage and provide regular, ongoing training and professional development (internally and externally).
We've been around for awhile (since 1986) and we have built a reputation of being a trustworthy, caring, professional tree care provider.
We love commercial arboriculture (the technical term for what we do) because it allows us to serve our community and invest our time and talents in planting and preserving trees (removing only when necessary). Trees are said to be one of the few assets that actually appreciate over time. They are a worthy investment and can reap HUGE benefits for generations, if properly managed.
We love to be outdoors, working with nature and using innovative tools and equipment to make our jobs safer and more efficient.
We have the privilege of building relationships throughout the community, helping trees in stay healthy and beautiful. Every day, every job, and every tree is unique. This brings great challenge and satisfaction to our roles as tree surgeons and caretakers.
Our company mission is to promote and provide safe and proper care of our urban forest, foster mutually beneficial relationships with our clients and employees, and give charitably through volunteering and financial contributions.
This is what motivates us to strive towards excellence.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
To partner with Colonial, simply call our office to speak with a customer support specialist or submit a work request through our company website.
Once your request is received, it will be assigned to an ISA Certified Arborist to review, and either meet with you in person onsite or arrange for a drop in visit to assess the scope of work requested.
After the site visit, the arborist will send you a quote via email within 1 business day for your review and approval. If everything looks good, you can approve in our client portal. If you have questions or want to make modifications you can submit a change request or contact the arborist directly to make sure everything is just right and ready for approval.
Once approval is received by our office, you will receive a confirmation by email. Usually within a few days to a week you will receive an email with your scheduled service date (weather permitting) and other related instructions to prepare for our crew's visit to your property.
You will receive a reminder email 1 day prior and reminder text 1 hour prior to when the work is scheduled. A crew member will also call when on their way with a firm ETA.
The office emails an invoice the morning work is scheduled so you can make the necessary arrangements to have payment ready upon completion.
Once the crew arrives onsite, the crew leader will touchbase with you (if you are home) and run over the scope of work slated for performance that day. Then they will perform a job safety briefing with the crew and secure the work zone. Then the crew gets busy - working diligently and safely to complete the project.
Once the work is completed, the crew leader will touch base with you again (if you are home) and review the work that was completed and ask if you have any questions. Payment is collected at this time.
The crew leader will mark the job complete and you will receive a customer satisfaction survey in your email to provide feedback on your experience of doing business with us.
Once you are an established client, you can easily reach out to us by phone, email, through the client portal, or again through our website. We value each and every one of our clients and strive to provide exceptional service.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
ISA Certified Arborists
Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP)
Trained/Certified in Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP)
Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ)
All of these designations require regular, ongoing continuing education to maintain. Our team attends training conferences both in and out of state throughout the year to stay abreast of industry standards, best practices, and tree science.
We are active members of ISA (International Society of Arboriculture), WAA (Wisconsin Arborist Association), TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association), and SCA (Society of Commercial Arboriculture).
We are also 1 of 4 companies in Wisconsin that participate in the new Wisconsin Arborist Apprenticeship program.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with residential, commercial, and municipal clients.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are only working with a company that employs ISA Certified Arborists and maintains the appropriate licenses and insurance coverages SPECIFIC to our industry which includes liability, workman's compensation, and preferably umbrella coverage. Membership in industry recognized organizations such as ISA, WAA, TCIA, ASCA, and SCA. This will often help you separate the sheep from the goats. Remember, you always get what you pay for!
Check references and reviews online. Tree work is a dangerous business that requires the skill and expertise of true professionals.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What do I need to have done? If unknown, be sure to consult with a professional arborist.
When do I want this project done?
Will I need to be home when the work is performed? (we do not require this with our clients, although they must make arrangements since payment is collected upon completion of work).
Do you have liability and workman's compensation insurance? Ask for a copy to be sent to you.
What kind of training or education do you have in tree care?
What will be included in the price you quote me?
Why should I choose your company over the next?
When can you fit me in your schedule? Realize most providers worth their salt are booked several weeks, if not months, in advance. If someone says they can fit you in the same or next day... unless the project is due to a hazardous situation that warrants immediate attention... be extremely wary. You are likely not dealing with a true professional.
