The Independent Gardener uses Organic Landscape Gardening practices. We do not use chemicals or pesticides and work with local supplies (mulch, stone) and native plants whenever possible.

We purchased a new home last year, and the yard hadn’t been kept up very well - overflowing hedges around the side and back of our yard, lots of undergrowth, no edges around the flowerbeds, and few flowers anywhere. Riley pruned and trimmed the hedges and plants we wanted to keep, got rid of the things that we didn’t want, created new beds, and spruced up old beds with new plantings and mulch. He also completely cleared our narrow side yard of weeds and an unwanted sedge, putting down a neat pathway of crushed gravel that keeps maintenance low and makes the area look really clean. He was helpful in helping us choose which plants to put where, and ensuring that we would be left with a beautiful starter yard that’s easy to maintain going forward. We loved working with him as he is patient, knowledgeable, and sincerely wants to help you get the yard you envision. We plan to continue to call on The Independent Gardener for future projects.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Please give me a call or send an email with a brief description of the project you are thinking of.

I look forward to hearing about your property, and we can arrange a time to walk the garden together to come up with a plan.

Once I have an idea of what you are looking for, I'll put together a quote for your project.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I hold a B.S. in Biology from the University of New Hampshire, where I specialized in ecology and environmental science.

I also have years of practical experience as a landscape gardener.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

Yes, I have a standard pricing model, based on the size of the space, type of work and amount of time needed to accomplish the work.

I prepare a custom quote for each project. For maitenence work we would agree on pricing for each season at the beginning of the season.

How did you get started in this business?

I've always enjoyed working outdoors. Growing up in a family of gardeners, I was working at an early age. During college I worked on the University of New Hampshire Organic Farm. After college I had a chance to work for great Organic Landscaping Gardening service in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I've done landscape and gardening work for a variety of clients. Residential Homes, Rental properties, and Small Businesses.
