Eugene H. says, "Forewarning Im not the best at typing so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors! Owner Justin was great!I have become quite the skeptic because customer service and quality just isn't like it was 20, 30, 40 year back. But I chose this contractor cause His initial email stood out and was very informative, professinal, and well spoken. And very fast response time. He cold sense my skepticism so he provided us with an abundance of credentials from electrical, property management and construction design license and certifications, several awards hes achieved, copy of insurance, simple but effective contract and references, receipts, the whole nine. Communication is huge to me and he was very attentive, knowledgeable, listens very well, and made sure to deliver exactly what i requested. My only complaint for giving- 4 stars- wasnt directed towards Justin. It was cause a guy working for him was on his phone a lot when Justin wasnt looking but I made justin aware of this and he dealt with the issue immediately and we had no more issues. Would definitely recommmend his services. Im glad to provide reference and any questions (937)583-3100 " Read more

Your Pool Deck Contractors questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does a pool deck cost?

The average cost to build a pool deck is $25 to $50 per square foot or 5,000 to $20,000 total. Installing an above ground pool with a deck costs $6,600 to $27,500 including labor.

The total cost will depend on the deck size, design, and whether the pool is inground, above ground, or semi-inground. Pressure-treated pine is the cheapest option, while hardwoods, composite, and aluminum cost more.

What is a pool deck?

A pool deck is any structure that covers the ground next to a pool. Some inground pool decks are built with concrete or pavers and are also known as pool patios.

Pool decks are a convenient place to dry off, lounge in a chair, or enjoy time with friends. Most pool decks are made of wood, composite material, or aluminum.

What is the best pool deck material?

The best material for building a pool deck will ultimately depend on your budget, preferences, and desired maintenance level. For example, composite decking is the easiest material to maintain and often looks like natural wood. However, pine wood is more affordable.

How do I calculate my pool deck size?

Pool decks are typically proportionate, meaning they have roughly the same square footage as your pool. You’re free to adjust the size of your deck as much as you want, though, especially if you don’t have much space in your yard or have a smaller budget.

You may want to design a larger deck if any of the following conditions apply:

  • You have a big yard or pool.
  • You plan on having large gatherings or parties outside.
  • You want to make room for chairs, a grill, a fire pit, or other outdoor furniture.

How long does it take to build a pool deck?

Building a pool deck will take at least 5 to 7 days for a 100- to 300-square-foot deck. An elevated or multi-level pool deck that's larger than 300 square feet can take 2 to 4 weeks. On top of that, you'll have to plan for permit processing, which will take a week or more, plus any applicable site preparation.

How do I pick a pool deck contractor?

Follow these guidelines when searching for pool deck contractors:

  • Compare 3+ estimates from experienced deck companies.
  • Check to see if they're members of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP).
  • Read their company's reviews on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Beware of the lowest quotes, which may indicate low-quality work.
  • Get a written contract and warranty before any work starts.
  • Don't pay in full until the job is done.

What questions should I ask pool deck contractors?

Ask these questions to help choose a qualitypool deck contractor:

  • Are you licensed, insured, and bonded?
  • How much experience do you have building pool decks?
  • Can I see a portfolio of recent pool decks you’ve built?
  • How long will the pool deck take to build?
  • What material do you recommend for this area?
  • Do you offer any financing options or payment plans?
  • What kinds of things does your warranty cover?

Very nice, quick to respond to messages, went the extra mile by taking my yard waste to the dump because Rumpke won’t pick it up at my house.
