About
I am the co founder of an award winning architecture and design firm, I-Beam Design, in NY City for the last 20 years and been on the NY Magazine's list of best NYC architects for 4 years in a row. Since COVID, we now have a sister company , Cityzen Designs, that merges architecture with interior design services which includes, additions, renovations and new construction.
We think outside the box and challenge ourselves and our clients to keep an open mind. We don't design based on styles as they fluctuate according to the fashion of the day. We design based on the client's needs, their desires, their budget and the context of the project's size, location and legal restrictions. We are known to make the ordinary, extraordinary,
and love the process of transforming spaces and our clients to new and elevated heights.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We always like to meet a new client at their existing as well as their new residence or project they are considering. We would go over their needs, their desires, their hobbies, and how the function in a space or their ultimate dream. We are dream builders so that is the starting point from which we can then modify the project based on various restrictions of budget, time, constraints.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an architecture graduate of an ivy league and historic university, The Cooper Union For The Advancement of Science and Art. I am the co-founder of I-Beam Design and also the founder and CEO of a fashion brand, Cityzen by Azin.
My educational background allows me design capabilities in multiple mediums of architecture, interior design, furniture design, graphic design, branding, textile design and fashion.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Our pricing varies depending the needs of a project with junior draftsperson fees being $75/hr to senior partner at $300/hr.
Each project will require different level of input and expertise.
We also offer fees based on percentage of construction costs or a lump sum amount.
How did you get started in this business?
I started my firm with my partner over 20 years ago when we won a competition in NY.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have done many residential and commercial projects ranging from refugee housing to museum quality residentials as well as multiple restaurants and bars with the largest commercial project being a 250,000 sf warehouses and headquarters of a logistics company.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure you connect with the person you are hiring as chemistry is very important in terms of their understanding of your needs, your budget and your aspirations. Sometimes, the solutions are simple without necessary expenses and it takes a perceptive person who looks at all possible options to come to that conclusion.
