Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to learn as much as I can about people and what their goals really are, and what they like. I encourage my clients to save pictures of landscapes they love on pinterest or any other websites, and to share them with me freely so that I can analyze and honor their tastes. During the consultation we will walk the property, and talk! I make special note of details the customer might miss; the AC unit, spickets, electrical outlets, drainage, sun exposure and traffic patterns. From there I develop a concept for the client.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked in the field for more than 7 years which allows me to be realistic about the maintenance required on the designs I create. I went to Columbus State Community College where I studied Landscape Design and horticulture. I am a member of the Ohio Landscape Association, Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association, and specialize in horticultural therapy as defined by the American Horticultural Therapy Association and am well-versed in the principles of "Universal Design."
How did you get started in this business?
I have found, in my own life, that the spaces we live in dramatically affect the quality of our lives. Having a comfortable place to retreat to and relax is more important as our work and home lives become more stressful. A well designed space can bring us tranquility, promote social interaction, or even promote play for children and pets. I have always loved nature and plants and have always hated sitting at a desk. I found this work because first it was my hobby, and then it became my passion.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work with Clients to enhance their residences in any neighborhood. I actually really love designing small spaces, shade gardens and side yards. Your space is not too big or too small. I also work with nursing homes, assisted living communities, achievement centers and schools to create fully accessible, therapeutic and interactive gardens tailored specifically to the needs of those who will be enjoying the garden.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Before winter hit we did a backyard in Lakewood. it was a total transformation with a small pond, sitting area, grilling area and shed. i love designing small yards. Every detail counts.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask questions regarding the maintenance of the site and pay attention to the questions being asked by the salesperson you are dealing with. For example: Have they asked you whether you have deer in your neighborhood? The better the questions they ask, the more you can be sure that they're going to deliver the landscape and service that you're paying for. Don't hesitate to ask questions. And i just can't say it enough - know what your goals for the project are and choose somebody who will help you reach those goals in a way that surprises and excites you. The idea is to pay for something you really enjoy coming home to!
