What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once the client contacts us we ask a series of questions to see exactly what the client is looking to have done. When clients are looking to have a new waterfeature installed we ask them for a budget. This helps prevent us from wasting the clients time by meeting with them & then designing a feature thats not within their range. We were one of the first professional waterfeature companies to publish our base prices for waterfeatures right on our website. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 38 years in the landscape design, build & maintain industry. 31 years of design, build & maintain in the aquascape (waterfeatures) industry.I love the type of work I do & it shows in each project we do.

How did you get started in this business?
I started working at a local garden center/growing facility when I was 16. I had a natural 'knack' for growing plants. Then about 30 years ago I became interested in waterfeatures. To be honest my first feature was a DISASTER, it leaked everywhere! I then returned to the supplier I purchased my material from who also installed waterfeatures & explained my situation. I guess he saw something in me & took me 'under his wing' teaching me during my free time to properly create waterfeatures. From their my passion for creating waterfeatures grew. Im constantly seeking ways to improve my knowledge & talent as well as help 'newbies' who are just coming into the industry on how to create properly functioning & natural looking waterfeatures.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I deal with a very wide array of clients from homeowners, other contractors, management companies & developers.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Take the time to visit projects the contractor claims to have built & actually talk to those clients. Dont just look at pictures they show you, many of those pictures can be purchased for use or copied off the internet.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Budget - Yes money determines what you truly will get for your investment. Being upfront with a professional waterfeature contractor about your budget will save you & the contractor time & will help them design a feature that meets your budget, your needs & wants.
Fish or No fish - is it just the sound of water cascading that you desire or do you want to jump into the hobby of keeping fish? Your budget will play a part in this as well. Our smallest pond which is 5' x 6' x 18" deep & our 7' x 10' x 2' deep pond are perfect for keeping common pond fish such as Goldfish, Comets, & Shubunkins to name a few. They really arent meant for Koi. Our ponds that start at 10' x14' x 2' deep is where you will need to start to keep Koi.
Also this is the time to remember the bigger the pond the easier it is to maintain it. YES I said the bigger the pond the easier it is to maintain it. See with an eco-system based pond (using Mother Nature to help care for your pond) the larger the body of water the less flucuations in water tempertures, water quality & beneficial bactwerias & enzymes the cleaner the water stays and the happier your fish are. Also in my 30+ years of pond building the thing I hear the most is "I wish we listened to you & made the pond bigger" but I never hear I wish we made the pond smaller! Also a big myth when it comes to Koi is that they only grow as big as their enviroment. This is 100% FALSE! They will grow as big as their genetics dictate. There's nothing sadder then when I have to re-home a clients prized Koi because its outgrown their pond. So believe me whan I tell you big is better that its NOT becuase I charge more money, its because I want YOU to have the pond that meets your dreams & needs the first time we build it for you.
