About

We listen to what customers need and provide personalized service. We are interested in creating glorious spaces uniquely suited to each client's needs. When a space can also be sustainable, use natives, small amounts of water, etc. we enjoy those elements too. Our maintenance work is billed at a time as needed rate so the client can have us do as much or little as they want, focusing on specific tasks or within an amount of time.

We enjoy creating and maintaining glorious spaces that clients will enjoy viewing and spending time in. We especially love beatiful plant combinations and creating unique, memorable spaces that transform how the client feels while in them. Our website needs updating but does show some of our work over the last 17 years: www.GloriousGardensInc.net. I, Rhonda, started and have owned the business alone all of these years. I purposely have a small company so we can spend the time we need to maintain high quality and communications with each client.

    Frequently asked questions

We prefer to meet the client at the property needing care in order to discuss the details of the project--whether it is ongoing garden or lawn maintenance, a one-time garden bed cleanup, or design and installation of new garden beds.

The owner has degrees and has done additional coursework and conferences in fine art, art history, and horticulture. Our designer has an associate's degree in horticulture, and our gardening staff have many collective years of professional experience and attend horticultural conferences each year. Many of us also carry the pesticide applicator's license, which is required by the EPA when applying anything that kills something else, (even if it is organic or as inocuous as household vinegar!).

All work is bid using our $55 per gardener per hour rate. Our garden bed and lawn maintenance contracts are structured on a "time and materials as used" rate which the client can max out at so many hours per week, or month, or year.

The owner has always loved the outdoors, and observing and working with plants. While working full-time in marketing at Washington University, the owner went back to school for horticulture. She started in 2000 by incorporating her business and selling designs, and by 2002 she was installing those designs and had hired gardening staff to help her. Now she oversees the company and is the key liaison with the clients, while the gardening staff do all of the field work.

We work with mostly residential customers but that is because we have a small company and have never sought out commercial accounts. Since we are knowledgable about plants and horticultural best practices, the clients who are the best match for our services are interested in having a thoughtful arrangement of plants and quality care for their property.

Last week, the owner attended a *Grow Native conference for professionals about soils and the best way to treat it and amend it in order to have the healthiest, loamiest, plant-producing medium. After 17 years, the owner thought she knew a lot about soils but she didn't know about the way bacteria and fungi grow and change their volumes as various plant societies evolve. *Grow Native is a native plant education and advocacy group which is a subset of the MO Prairie Foundation. The owner has been a member of GN since it's founding at least 10 years ago.

Select a pro who has the knowledge and experience to do the job well, and if plant-related, to do so in a way that sets up the plants for their long-term good health. Many in this industry take short-cuts which don't always create the best long-term outcomes.

What is the goal of the project? What key elements must be included in the project? What is the customer's budget? Are all decision-making members of the household on the same page regarding these issues? Is the contractor under consideration fully insured? Does the contractor have the combination of knowledge and experience to do the job the customer envisions? Is the contractor professional in word and deed?
