It has been our pleasure to have contracted with Tom Savage of Pioneer Builders for the construction of two homes for our family. Our first home was built by Tom in 1999 in the Pioneer Heights development, located in Ellington, CT. This house was a traditional Colonial with a two car garage, and was built with many features not often seen in turn-key home designs. Tom’s willingness to listen to our cares and concerns over the features in the home, and his ability to provide us with these items while enabling us to stay within our budget, produced the perfect home for our family.

Almost ten years later, my wife and I were contemplating building a one story home in the same town more suited to our specific needs (kids out of the house!). Once we finally decided on the home design and completed the custom print for construction, our first and only choice to build this home was Tom at Pioneer Builders. Unlike the first home, this design was filled with many specific features that we painstakingly researched prior to the creation of the custom print. We needed a “builder’s builder”, an experienced craftsman who knew every inch of home construction, and Tom filled that bill. From assistance in working through the approval process with the town authorities, to the foundation excavation and site work (Tom actually operated the heavy equipment), to the hands-on oversight of the framing work (Tom found a print error and corrected it onsite), down to the installation of the HVAC system, Tom was there in person to get the job done right the first time. In the end, the house passed the town’s inspection flawlessly and we were happily residing in our new home in less than 6 months from start to finish. And one last item, Tom completed the job with a total cost within 2% of the planned budget. Now that is a superior home builder, for sure!

After 34 years in a beautiful house that we lovingly molded into our dream home, we reluctantly came to the realization that a house with stairs was no longer practical for us. But where do you go when you love the area in which you have been living for its convenience to stores, gas stations, Buckland Mall, church, hospital, and your backyard abuts a golf course? We searched for a year, but none of the many houses we looked at compared favorably to our home. All that time we drove frequently by Middlefield Estates, a mile away from our home. When there was an Open House, we decided to check it out, not expecting it to meet the high standards of Paul, who is both a civil engineer and a carpenter.

To our delight we found an extremely well constructed house, and met Tom Savage, a builder who’s hallmark is quality construction. Several months later our new dream home was under construction, and daily we came to admire Tom for his integrity and work ethic. He understood what we wanted and needed in our retirement home and made sure that we got it.

Tom was always accommodating whether it was jump starting Paul’s car or allowing Paul to build bookcases during the construction. We found that his subcontractors respected him as much as we did, which contributed to a well built house.

It was difficult leaving the home where we raised our daughters, but thanks to Tom and his ever present smile, building our new home was exciting. We were never stressed because Tom proved himself to be a dependable, hands on builder.

In conclusion, we are delighted with our new home, and consider its construction a wonderful period in our lives.
