What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I did dirt work for 10 years before I began my Rental business. I know the challenges you will face and I can match the best machine for the task at hand.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is the same for everyone. Big companies dont get a special rate just because they buy more. All compaines that use my machines can quote their jobs on very predictable and consistant numbers. This is an important client care principle we stay firm to. The 2019 Rates are as follows
Bobcats and Excavators are exactly the same.
$240 for the first day.
$120 every day after that.
$720 per week . example Monday morning thru Sunday night.
$1440 per month . example morning of July 15th thru end of day August 14th . Typically 30-31 full days.
Free delivery within 20 miles
$75. delivery charge 20-40 miles
$100 delivery charge 40-60 miles. Over 60 miles call.
How did you get started in this business?
(short version) I bought a bobcat to plow my long driveway. Spring came and I had nothing to do with the bobcat. I lived on Rt 53 in Woodridge so I put a hand painted sign at the end of the driveway that said "Bobcat for Rent." Soon the Bobcat was booked full time so I bought another one, and another, and another. Now we own a 3200 sq ft commercial facility with 4 full time workers, 2 delivery trucks and 18 machines.
As a contractor I used to rent all types of machines all the time. Everything I didnt like about the rental experience I changed when I started my business. I didnt like how the price changed for special customers so I made everything straight pricing for homeowners and contractors alike. No extra charges for fuel and Insurance and damage weivers. I include everything. I didnt like the limited hours on the machine. I dont count machine hours, I count days. If you put in a 12 hr day then good for you. It doesnt cost extra. I dont charge cleaning fees. Its a dirt work machine, It will get dirty. I dont charge rain days. Call befor 9am and I dont charge the day. (no cheating all my machines are tracked with GPS.) I didnt like renting an additional trailer or finding a truck and trailer the rental companies would approve of. My trucks are "dialed in" to move equipment with all the required safty certifications in place. I didnt like having to have the machine back by 5pm or else get charged another day. The clock stops ticking when you call me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I rent mostly to plumbers, landscape contractors and concrete contractors. I also rent to homeowners for digging landscape ponds, grading yards, digging pools etc. I offer onsite training till the client feels comfortable with the machine. I work with local municipalities like DuPage Public Works, Village of Romeoville, Village of Downers Grove.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I sponsored a float in the Chicago Pride Parade
I donate machines to "Habitat for Humanity"
I sponsor little league baseball teams.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Saving $10 on a rental might not be worth it when you have to spend $80 to refuel a machine and pay all the extras that mysteriously find their way to your bill. Look at the big picture and the real cost of dollars and your time.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
By the time the client get to me, all the thinking has been done, its time to break ground.
