How do they insulate themselves and the client from Risk of Loss?
I have every trade partner sign a Hold Harmless Agreement as well as having us names as additional insureds on their insurance policy for the duration of work.
We also collect Lien Waivers from all paid trades/vendors to insure there is not an issue down the road.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
The 'cheap' guy is cheap for a reason. Legitimate contractors doing the same work have the same basic costs; these folks are usually with 2-5% of eachother's numbers. There are some factors that change this but the super-cheap outfit is a problem waiting for an excuse. We are not the cheap guy nor are we the highest prices 'boutique' shop.
