How did you get started in this business?
My mother was in IT security and my father was a statistion, since both were involved with PC's since my youth I naturally found myself having a passion to dig into PC's to learn more about the operating systems and hardware. In 1992 i accepted my first paid client working on PC's for my neighborhood.
In 1999 I started working for a local computer shop and when that business closed I picked up a majority of their business and built up my own business based on that clientel.
I have since gone to corporate side a few times, but I find my passion and desire to help the every day person not in a coporate environment was a stronger pull. I focused my time to support home users and small businesses.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with large coprorate and non profit organizations. I have helped thousands of home users over the years and I support over 10 small businesses with under 15 employees.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I personally feel you should have a technician that can listen to you and your issue. There are many ways to approach and address various issues in the PC industry. So I would use a technician that has experience and the ability to think on their feet and address problems from several directions vs just running the same script every day, that may solve some problems but, I find that there is always a wrinkle hiding somewhere script followers miss.
If you get a cold call or a pop up telling you to call this or that number to fix an issue you didn't know about. Its a scam. Becareful who you trust with access to your system.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Have you restarted your system?
If you have a laptop have you removed the battery as well as the power cord to verify thats not the issue?
If your system doesn't power on as usual, have you held the power button in for 15 to 20 seconds to see if the system is just stuck in some kind of sleep state or hibernation?
