Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Mobile Computer Repair questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does mobile computer repair cost?

Mobile computer repair services cost around $30 to $40 on average, for the service fee for a technician to come to your location. The average labor rate is around $65 per hour but can go up to $90 per hour or more for in-demand mobile computer experts.

Some experienced computer repair technicians offer flat rates for their most common services. Typical rates can include $10 for software installation, $20 for PC hardware repair, $40 for diagnostic testing, and $100+ for data recovery.

Do computer repair companies offer ongoing maintenance?

Many computer repair companies offer monthly or annual service contracts for proactive system maintenance to prevent issues and maximize uptime for their clients. Ongoing maintenance helps generate recurring revenue for the repair business.

Some common ongoing maintenance offerings from computer repair providers include:

  • Managed IT services
  • Computer tune-ups
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Remote monitoring
  • Warranty / service plans
  • Virus / malware protection

Who does mobile computer repair?

Mobile computer repair services are offered by a variety of providers, ranging from independent technicians to national franchises and retail chains. Some common sources for mobile computer repair include:

  • Independent technicians and local shops: Many cities and towns have local computer repair shops or individual technicians who offer on-site or mobile repair services. These independent providers often have lower overhead costs and can provide personalized service. However, their availability, expertise, and pricing can vary widely.
  • National franchises and retail chains: Several national franchises and retail chains offer mobile computer repair services, including Best Buy's Geek Squad, HelloTech, and Nerds on Call. These larger companies typically have standardized pricing, trained technicians, and the ability to service a wide geographic area. However, their services may be more expensive than local providers.
  • Manufacturer-authorized repair centers: Major computer manufacturers like Dell, HP, and Lenovo have authorized service centers and technicians who can provide on-site or carry-in repair services. These centers specialize in repairing the manufacturer's products and may be the best option for complex hardware issues or repairs under warranty.
  • Online services and remote support: Some companies, such as iYogi and Support.com, offer remote computer support and repair services. Technicians can access the user's computer remotely to diagnose and resolve software-related issues. However, physical hardware repairs still require an on-site visit.

What questions should I ask a mobile computer repair technician?

Ask these questions upfront to ensure you hire a qualified, transparent, and customer-focused mobile repair provider that meets your needs and budget:

  • What are your qualifications and certifications for computer repair?
  • How many years of experience do you have in mobile computer repair?
  • Do you specialize in certain brands, models, or types of computers?
  • What types of repairs do you provide (hardware, software, virus removal, etc.)?
  • Do you offer remote support or only on-site service?
  • Do you provide data backup and recovery services?
  • What is your hourly rate or typical service fee for mobile repairs?
  • Is there a minimum charge or trip fee for the service call?
  • Do you charge extra for travel beyond a certain radius?
  • What is your policy on warranties or guarantees for completed work?
  • How quickly can you come on-site for the repair?
  • How long do typical repairs take to complete?
  • Will you need to take the computer to your shop, or can it be repaired on-site?
  • If taking it to the shop, how will you ensure data privacy and security?
  • Do you offer free estimates or consultations before starting work?
  • How do you handle re-occurring issues after a repair is completed?
  • Can you provide references or reviews from previous customers?

How do I choose a mobile computer repair service?

Follow these steps to find a qualified mobile computer repair service near you:

  • Request references and read online reviews on HomeGuide and Google to gauge their customer service reputation.
  • Verify they have a valid business license and liability insurance to operate legally and protect against damages.
  • Ask about the technicians' certifications and years of experience in computer repair, especially for mobile/on-site services.
  • Inquire if they specialize in certain brands, models, or types of computers that match your needs.
  • Verify they provide the specific repair services you require.
  • Check if they provide data backup services to protect your files during the repair.
  • Get clear pricing upfront, including service call/trip fees and hourly labor rates for mobile repair.
  • Ask about warranties or guarantees on completed work and any "no fix, no fee" policies.
  • Inquire about typical response times for mobile service calls.
  • Determine if they provide status updates and estimated repair timelines.

I don't bother posting reviews, but this is worth it because he was really nice. I am DONE hiring "cheap" techs. The last guy was awful. Foolish me thinking $55/hr would get me an expert. I called Shannon about a wireless problem or internet problem several days ago in the late afternoon. This guy is a god. I was behind on my work and my school papers for my online class, and it seemed like the internet was broken. Shannon came out early the next morning FULLY PREPARED! He had EVERYTHING! He got Cox on the phone line and he knew everything to say. I could hear the tech ask questions that were wasting time. Shannon took control of the situation and it was fun to hear him speak their language better than them and guided THEM through the whole problem. My house is quite long and the cable modem is on the other end of the house from my bedroom/office so wifi doesn't work well. Shannon explained that the best solution was to put in a network cable in the attic to connect the whole house. I felt bad having him in the attic! It has been over 110 degrees outside every day lately! But he did it! He even had everything with him and didn't have to come back which was great because of my busy schedule. He also ended up replacing my cable modem (which cox said needed to be done), installed a new professional router and wifi "access point" that he connected to the new attic cable. Cox said I was only getting 5 megabits download speed before it was fixed but paying for 150 megabits. Shannon fixed it and now I get 160 download speed!! Two other techs had suggested "wifi extenders" which did not work and wasted my time and money. I'm not stressed or p*ssed off at my computer anymore. Money well-spent. Everything is working perfectly, and I love having my own computer person on speed dial. : ) Thank you, Shannon.
