About
We go the extra length to find a solution. and consider having to tell the customer to "start over" a failure on our part. Helping people who have only been told to "Buy A New hard drive/computer," is fundamental, as these machines sometimes just need a little attention/upgrade to keep on working for you; Stretch that investment as long as possible I say(!).
Our typical $60 fee is 1/2 hour of labor that both identifies the issue and (in most cases) also applies as the labor to fix it. Parts needed will be extra; I can price them or the customer can obtain them themselves -- of course then they are responsible for functionality and correctness of part.
My data recovery $120 service (less for thumbdrives- depending on capacity), if I cannot get the data, pretty much ensures that opening it will be the only way to go; that's why I don't charge if I cannot get it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I inform customer of the cost for the repair, Then I speak with the customer to discuss the specific issues and see if perhaps it is something that I can resolve over the phone. If not, I’ll make arrangements to meet the customer to either perform the repair or pick up the machine.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former tech and manager of a PC repair shop and authorized apple repair shop that was located in Suwanee Georgia.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
typically it is $60 per half hour of labor, which includes the diagnostic to discover the issue if it is not already known.
$120 is the cost for data recovery.
$100 is the cost for a liquid spell recovery.
How did you get started in this business?
I have worked in the PC and Apple computer repair business for 20 years; I started as an apprentice add an authorized apple repair center and work my way up to be a tech and eventually the manager.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Often I am asked whether the drive needs to be opened; it is the major question and the source of major expense.
To be done correctly without damaging the drive's information, opening drives must be done in expensive clean rooms w expensive equipment; that's why the charge for that type of recovery usually runs at least $400-$500 to start.
My service is to do everything possible to recover the data *without* opening it; I believe that if I cannot recover it the only option is to open the drive. That's why I charge only $120, and no charge if I cannot recover the date.
Think of it as needing some auto repair, and the solution you're given requires removing the engine(!)... that procedure would likely make it easy to resolve just about any engine issue, but is it necessary for an oil change? Even some gasket work? If it can be done without removing the engine then you save $$$ in labor cost.
No doubt opening the drive will allow recovery of the data on the drive, but if it can be done without doing so then you save potentially at least $300.
