Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We receive a request for service. After making contact, discussing the symptoms, assessing the potential problem with the customer and explaining the possible charges... We then set an appointment if the customer feels comfortable. After a successful service call, we send a detailed sales receipt, follow up with a thank you card and email asking for feedback.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Electrical Engineering. I continually study the latest virus and malware attacks through many online sources. I attend the DefCON conference each year to stay on top of the latest network and computer attack vectors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We simply break the hour into 15 min increments ... The cost is $40/increment. I don't charge any trip fees or trip charges.
How did you get started in this business?
I received my first computer in 1977 which got me interested in how computers work.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Small business (5 Computers or less), bigger small-business (5-20 computers), home offices (including VPN issues) and residential customers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
On my recommendation, a small business customer agreed to install Carbonite online backup for their small network and Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. A couple of weeks later, they became the victim of a ransomware attack which encrypted most of the files on their network. Luckily, this customer did not have to pay the ransom for their files. We simply formatted the infected computer(s) and the NAS drive, reloaded their data from Carbonite and they were back in business. A good backup plan is essential to any IT strategy.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for a Pro that has been in business for a long time. Many IT businesses are started and drop off the map within a few months.
We have been in business since 1997. We have loyal customers because they know we will be around next week and we know our stuff. By getting to know our customers over the long haul, we can pro ide superior service.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
A great description of the symptoms is extremely helpful to us. This allows us to diagnose many problems just from the description. We are kind of like doctors in that a good description of symptoms can lead us down the path of a cure.
