Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I meet with them for a free estimate. I set an appt. for the services that they request. I give them a checklist. Depending on the project, I might request a deposit and the balance upon completion for the initial job.
Reviews are on my website.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 9 years of professional cleaning experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35-$40/hr for most standard quality cleanings. If a client has the same, or similar general task requests for recurring cleanings, I will usually switch to a flat rate.
How did you get started in this business?
I had co-owned a printing business for 28 years. In 2012, I decided to start a housekeeping business, to support others who need and want dependable personal services.
I never hired assistance for myself, so I worked long hours for most of my life. I did not have supportive services of any kind.
My parents both worked outside of the home when I was growing up. I did all of the house cleaning for them. I saw a need for professional and personable in-home assistance.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with different types of people and age groups. Most of my clients are 50+ years old. It is harder for them to physically do house cleaning.
I have worked with the middle class and wealthy. The house size that I prefer at this time, is 1200-2200 sq'.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am working on a couple of online businesses and that takes a lot of time, so I work most of the time. I have not been to an event for a long time.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure that who you hire is bonded and insured. Ask to see the proof. Some states don’t require a license.
If you hire a company with employees, ask the owner or manager if they perform background checks on them.
Hide valuables. Read reviews.
Make sure that the cleaning tech uses a quality vacuum, so that the dust goes into the vacuum bag and it doesn't escape getting your house dirty. I use a HEPA vacuum.
Don't hire cheap cleaners. There is a reason why they only charge $15-20/hr. A professional, with years of experience, will charge what they are worth. A good cleaning tech will know what products to use on different surfaces.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do you want a solo cleaning tech or a team. There are pros and cons to both.
Do you want customized services? A solo tech is more willing to take more time with you and customize tasks to fit your needs.
What is more important to you, quality services or price. You usually can't get both. You may need to find a compromise. Rotating some tasks, can help if you are having monthly cleanings.
