Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Every plumbing job is different so it's kind of hard to have set prices. Some jobs are more complex than others.
How did you get started in this business?
My uncle got me started in plumbing way back in 2003. I was 19 years old and didn't want to continue going to college. At that young age I was lost and didn't have a clue of what career to choose. Once my uncle found out I quit school he offered me a job as his plumbing apprentice. I did all the grunt work at first and then my uncle noticed how fast I was learning the trade. He kind of just fed me to the wolf's and put me in a service truck after only 4 months of training. So there I was learning by trial and error. Mind you that back then we didn't have YouTube or google to help. And the rest is history. Here I am 17 years later
What types of customers have you worked with?
Throughout my 17 years of working in this industry I have worked with every type of customer imaginable.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I got a service call for a clogged toilet. There I was augering the toilet and struggling to get the auger to go down the toilet trap. I was at it for about 10 straight minutes and then a kid about 6 years old walks in the bathroom and says"I flushed woody, please don't tell my mom". I have kids myself so I knew the kid was in big trouble if I told mom what was stuck in the toilet. That job always makes me laugh.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Hire a professional with a good standing license. Always check a contractors license to make sure they don't have negative marks or a suspended contractors license. It's very easy to check. Just go on the California state license board website.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Most plumbing problems have an inexpensive easy fix and a permanent fix that will be more costly.
example.: clogged sewer every 4 months due to roots. Toilet overflows and bathtub fills with sewage water. Sewage water creates mess and unsanitary conditions in the house.
Inexpensive fix- keep snaking line and pay approx $95 every 4 months and deal with sewage overflow.
permanent fix. - dig up root infested section of sewer and replace it. 20 year warranty. Peace of mind. Permanent fix - approx $1,200.
so you should think through what kind of fix you want.
