Describe a recent project you are fond of.
Someone called me with a dead laptop. We discussed the cost of fixing the old laptop. The customer decided it would be better to buy a new laptop. I removed the hard drive from the dead laptop and copied all the data to an external hard drive. The customer asked for recommendations on a new laptop. Since they were pretty handy with computers they purchased the new laptop and copied their data to the new PC. I could have purchased the new PC and copied the data to new PC if they needed it.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It's hard to pick someone since everyone says their competent and most people usually have some good reviews. Asking how long they have been doing their job can be helpful.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Sometimes repairs cost enough money that a new PC could be a better choice. If cost $300 to fix a five year old PC and $500 for a new PC. The new PC is more expensive but it is unlikely to need major repairs for years. The five year old PC could have other expensive problems within a year or two so it's a gamble to fix the old PC.
