Eugene H. says, "Forewarning Im not the best at typing so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors! Owner Justin was great!I have become quite the skeptic because customer service and quality just isn't like it was 20, 30, 40 year back. But I chose this contractor cause His initial email stood out and was very informative, professinal, and well spoken. And very fast response time. He cold sense my skepticism so he provided us with an abundance of credentials from electrical, property management and construction design license and certifications, several awards hes achieved, copy of insurance, simple but effective contract and references, receipts, the whole nine. Communication is huge to me and he was very attentive, knowledgeable, listens very well, and made sure to deliver exactly what i requested. My only complaint for giving- 4 stars- wasnt directed towards Justin. It was cause a guy working for him was on his phone a lot when Justin wasnt looking but I made justin aware of this and he dealt with the issue immediately and we had no more issues. Would definitely recommmend his services. Im glad to provide reference and any questions (937)583-3100 " Read more

Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Window Treatment Installation or Repair questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much do window treatments cost to install?

Window treatments cost $30 to $200 for prefabricated window shades, including installation labor. Motorized window shades cost $300 to $1,000 to install. The cost of installing window treatments can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the type of treatment, the size and number of windows, the complexity of the installation, and the brand and material of the blinds.

Simple roller shades and basic blinds fall on the lower end of pricing, while custom draperies and real wooden blinds fall on the higher end. Using higher-quality fabrics or materials with better insulation can increase your total cost. However, you may be able to save money by purchasing in bulk for multiple windows. This can result in a lower cost per unit because of volume discounts, making larger orders more economical.

Do you tip window treatment installers?

Generally, tipping a window treatment installer is not expected. The cost of installation includes the installer’s labor. However, if you feel the installer has provided exceptional service, a tip of 10% to 20%of the installation cost is a good guideline to follow.

Instead of cash tips, you could offer refreshments during their work, write a positive review, or give a small gift like a basket of goodies to show your appreciation.

Do Home Depot and Lowes install window treatments?

Yes, both Home Depot and Lowes offer window treatment installation services using local third-party installers. This means that availability, pricing, and experience of the installers can vary by location.

Who can repair window treatments?

Window treatment repairs can be handled by a variety of professionals, with specialized blind repair services being the most common option. These professionals are trained to handle a wide range of problems, with the most common tasks including repairs to tilt mechanisms, barrels, broken slats, ladders, and lift strings. Many of these services can complete repairs on-site, often in just a couple of hours, saving you the hassle of removing and transporting your window treatments to the shop.

How do I choose a window treatment installer?

Follow these tips when choosing a window treatment installer:

  • Experience and expertise: Look for installers with several years of experience in the industry.
  • Range of services: Choose an installer who offers a wide variety of window treatments, including blinds, shades, shutters, and draperies. This ensures they can meet your specific needs.
  • Customer reviews and ratings: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like HomeGuide and Google.
  • Consultation services: Many reputable installers offer free in-home consultations to help you choose the right products for your space.
  • Product quality: Look for installers who work with reputable brands or manufacture their own high-quality products.
  • Installation expertise: Ensure the company has certified or experienced installers.
  • Customization options: Choose an installer who can accommodate custom designs and unique window shapes.
  • Warranty and after-sales service: Check if the company offers warranties on their products and installation, and provides good after-sales support.
  • Licensing and insurance: Verify that the installer is properly licensed and insured to protect yourself in case of any issues during installation.
  • Price and value: While price shouldn't be the only factor, compare quotes from different installers to ensure you're getting fair pricing for the quality of service offered.

What questions should I ask a window treatment installer?

While this is not exhaustive, asking these questions can help ensure you’re getting a qualified installerl who can handle your window shade project:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Can you provide examples of your past work?
  • Do you have experience with the specific type of window treatments I'm interested in?
  • How long will the installation take?
  • How will you protect my furniture and flooring during installation?
  • Do you have your own installers or do you subcontract?
  • What types of window treatments do you offer?
  • Can you help me choose the right product for my home?
  • What brands do you work with?
  • What is included in your pricing?
  • Do you offer a warranty on both products and installation?
  • Do you offer free in-home consultations?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • How far in advance do I need to schedule the installation?
  • What is your policy if I need to reschedule?
  • What kind of after-sales support do you provide?
