We do a consulation with the customer to establish their persoanl expectations, goals for the project, CTV (cost to value) ratio, financing, zoning considerations and the impact on the properties existing services on the new work (electrical, mechanical, plumbing)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Virginia Builder and Home Improvement Contractor. CAPS certified with the National Association of Home Builders.
How did you get started in this business?
After a career in the military, I decided that the building trades would be a perfect fit for me. The building trades are an industry that is needed today and will be more need as the country moves into a tech world.
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
We had a senior citizen customer that was unable to use the bath tub for safety reasons. After a consulation with the customer and their specific needs, a plan was developed to remove the existing tub, update the plumbing and electricial and put in a walk-in shower with a seat. An example of customizing the project to the customer needs, all of the accessory holders were placed on the level the customer needed them for their convenience rather than the standard locations
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
The customer should look for a contractor that specializes in the type of work they need performed. You don't want a roofer renovating a kitchen or bathroom
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Have an end goal in mind. Know your budget. Be flexible in shifting your plan to meet current building code as will be required on the project.
