I work closely with our clients when it comes to designing their house. Together, we work to create a house design that can be built for their budget. I then lead the on site team to build the house that we designed together.
I work onsite every day from the day that excavation begins to the completion of the project and handing over the keys to your new home. I design and build our projects so that no detail gets missed.
My reputation is building custom, high performance homes. These homes are extremely energy efficuent and healthy to live in. Twenty years of owning my company has taught me many things including how to work with most budgets and still achieve the homeowner's wants and needs.
My company has won many national and international awards for our green building and sustainable architecture, including the coveted Green Builder Magazine Green Home of the year award.
We have extensive knowledge and experience working with insulated concrete forms (ICFs), structural insulated panels (SIPs), and earth shelters.
I am a regular contributor to Mother Earth News as a writer and blogger.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I normally design each project that we build, so the typical process begins with consultations and a site visit to get a better understanding of what the new customer wants to build.
The next step is to create a price for me to draw the project and create building plans. During the design process, I try to make sure that what gets drawn actually will build for the budget.
After we create a budget and complete the drawings, we schedule a start date to start building.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have degrees in marketing and management which helps me to manage the budget and building process.
I have a Masters Degree in Green Building.

How did you get started in this business?
I have always been around green building, even before the term green building was main stream. I love creating homes that use less energy and that are custom!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have a large number of followers from the decades of high profile projects that I have built, including The Energy Fair Show House, The Vineyard Project, and the internationally acclaimed Earth Shelter Project Michigan.
Most of our clients already know that I build custom, eye catching, inhabitant friendly projects for a wide range of budgets.
New clients who are unaware of my track record are pleasantly surprised at what they recieve for their budget compared to 'typical' builders.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
It is hard to not focus on current events and get wrapped up into negative comments and thoughts. With regards to building, a very positive recent event that I am fond of are the interest rates!! Don't miss out on the great interest rates, let's get started!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
The best advice that I can give to a customer looking to hire a pro is to find the person whose experience best matches what you are looking to build. There are many 'cookie cutter' builders out there and they build nice houses and there are builders like myself, who have extensive experience in many forms of building. The difference is in the experience and finished project!
