Frequently asked questions

Our typical process for working with new customers is asking questions to identify the needed service or services and we then inform them ahead of time what the total cost of the job will be based on the information given by the client.

I started locksmithing in 1988 after attending the New York School Of Locksmithing. I then went on to work for different companies throughout the past 33+ years. I have experience working in Residential, Commercial, Government and institutional facilities, working with both electronic and non-electronic locks and access control systems, exit devices, master key systems and more.

We charge a fixed Service Trip Charge, labor prices vary based on the services needed (e.g. rekeys, repairs, installations, unlocks, etc.) Hardware prices may vary based on brand, type, etc. But all prices are quoted before any work is performed. For payments, we submit an invoice via email which includes a link for making payments. We accept cards, cash, check, cashapp, applepay, venmo, paypal and zelle.

I worked as a security guard for a few years in the late 80's before deciding to go to a trade school in 1988, Locksmithing was my trade of choice after seeing several infomercials for The New York School of Locksmithing in Manhattan N.Y.

I've worked with Residential, Retail and Commercial customers.

I recently installed smart cameras and a video doorbell for a customer in addition to rekeying their door locks.

The advice I would give a customer looking to hire a provider in my area of work is to: 1. As with any trade, unfortunately there are scammers out there, Do your research on the company to ensure they are legit (Fortunately, Thumbtack does this for you) 2. Be clear and specific about the services that you need if you are requiring a quote up front. 3. Always ask questions if you're not clear about the pricing, upon the service person's arrival, ask them to let you know about any additional charges that may arise "before" the work is performed.

Before talking to a locksmith about lock changes, determine before hand if you would like all new locks or to just have the existing locks rekeyed to a new key, also decide how many keys you would like. Of course if you're not sure about what is the best route to take, then the service person can help walk you through the decision-making process.
