Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
1. We always like to discuss the project via phone call to understand the basics of the homeowners needs. If it seems like a good fit for both we take the next step...
2. We schedule an appointment to meet with the customer to discuss in more detail, take measurements, nail down the scope of work involved to develop a proposal.
3. Provide the customer with a proposal outlining the project, materials to be used, timeline and payment schedule.
4. Apply for all permits and upon permits being issued execute the scope of work
5. Ensure the customer is 100% satisfied and close-out the project.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Supervisor License (unrestricted) in Ma for over 25 years, Hoisting Engineer License (excavators, all track and rubber tire equipment), Licensed Title V Septic Installer, Home Improvement Contractor License
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Every project is unique, we do not use a cookie cutter aproach when pricing projects. It never works and leads to contractors cutting corners or gouging the customer with change orders...
We price every project based on a "detailed scope of work" which describes exactly what work will be done, the materials to be used and the time it will take.
This avoids the vast majority of disagreements that arise between "fly by night / unlicensed contractors" and customers whach unfortanutely are so common in construction/remodeling industry!
We are proud to be able to use any one of our customers over the past 15 years as a reference!
How did you get started in this business?
Attended vocational school, after college worked in the Boston area for a few years before relocating to the Cape. Once on Cape worked as a Construction Supervisor on High End residential projects in Chatham area for 5 years.
Have always loved being able to take a customers idea and help them design and build their dream space.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work on projects where clients are on an extremely tight budget and need help with repairs and clients that have an open wallet and "want what they want"...
The worst client is the "indecisive"... When trying to work our way through a project and decisions can't be made it slows down the project, throws off the schedule and can impact the budget.
We understand that customers can get "cold feet" once a project get going and are nervous about the plan... We are easy to work with and offer suggestions to get over the hump and get the project back on track...
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We have customers tell us all the time that our proposals are the most detailed and we usually end up the "middle price" when they get 3 bids.
I must not forget my crew, they make SunWind is what it is! I receive compliments all the time how conscientious, friendly they crew is...
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Check the contractors credentials, check references and compare the details of the proposal... If a contractor gives you less details up front you can guarantee it will cost you more in the end...
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Qualifications
Background check of employees
Schedule (when can the builder realistically start and when will job be complete)
Insurance and State Licenses
