About this pro

Kettell Custom Homes, Inc. is a custom home building and remodeling company doing business in the Chicago suburbs for over 30 years.  As founder and President, I am proud of the reputation for quality work that my company has developed.   My success over the years has been due in large to open communication with the customer, detailed planning, constant monitoring of the work in progress and the use of quality tradespeople and products.

As a third generation building contractor, I grew up in the trades.  I haven't just watched, but actually physically built many homes from the ground up.  The work is a passion that I am lucky to enjoy every day.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first meeting is to understand what the customer wants & to establish a budget.  When new construction or remodeling are involved, the next step is to make a preliminary design or plan for the customers approval.  Then preliminary costs are assembled for review.  Final plans are drawn and a contract is written.  The construction process is layed out series of customer selections and approval as the project is completed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Business Management degree from Bradley University.

I have years of experience as both a framing & trim carpenter.

I oversee every aspect of home construction & repair and have a good general knowledge of each trade.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

Depending on the job to be done, I have ball park pricing to establish a base line, but I have found that there are to many variables to have a standard price.

How did you get started in this business?

I am a third generation contractor and grew up in the business.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

The best advice that I can give in hiring a pro is to make sure that you can easily communicate with the person, because it is a process of the two of you working together.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

Be clear about the differences between what you need and what you want.
