Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step should always be to meet with the potential customer and discuss their project. It's important to get a good feel for what they are looking for and determine if we can provide what they need. If we mutually decide to move ahead then we will usually have numerous discussions to determine exactly what they are looking for. Once the design is settled then we discuss a schedule and proceed with construction. The completion of the project is not the end of our involvement. We are always available to take care of any concerns or issues that may arise, even years after the project completion.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We have over 20 years of experience the design and construction of both new and existing homes as well as commercial design and construction. My background is in engineering.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing really depends on the scope and complexity of the project so, although our quote will ultimately be very competitive, it is important to meet with the potential customer and discuss the project before discussing cost. I would strongly advise anyone contemplating a project to avoid anyone who is giving them blanket pricing without first discussing the details
What types of customers have you worked with?
We deal equally well with people from all backgrounds. It's very satisfying to be able to flesh a design of out what they really want and then have the competence to build it.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We recently completed a major renovation of a home in Woodbridge for a Yale professor. He owned a mid century modern home and wanted to make a major expansion. Through a number of conversations it was determined that he loved the famous frank loyd Wright home "falling water". We collaborated with him on a design that incorporated many of the visual qualities of that home. We then coordinated with our civil engineer to build what the owner envisioned, both ahead of time and under budget.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Meet wth the contractor to decide if they are what you are looking for and if you feel comfortable with them. It is a major expense and a potentially big disruption of your life so it's important that you feel you can trust the contractor to competently complete the project.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
While price is always a concern, it is equally important to choose a contractor that will listen to your concerns and address them accordingly. Do you have an idea of what you're finished product will be; do you have any time constraints; is it important that the contractor is aware that you may need to live in the home during construction and are they willing to make adjustments to make it easier for you. We feel it is very important to always listen to our customers, not only to create the best design for their needs but also to make the construction phase as seamless as possible.
