I strongly prefer to set up a time to meet a customer in person at the job site. Due to the custom nature of many of the jobs I do, I insist on measuring all jobs prior to placing orders. I typically bring manufacturer brochures and sit down with the customer to discuss options on doors and openers. I am always available via cell phone or email to answer any follow-up questions that a customer might think of. I do sign contracts prior to ordering doors, this is for the protection of the best interests of both the customer and the company. The contract to be signed is available on my website. I schedule jobs, to the best of my ability, to be done on days that the customer is available to be on site during the install. I warranty the labor on my installs for five years by contract. If I can identify that faulty workmanship is present I will fix the problem for free even after that period of time! Product warranties are variable based on manufacturer and model.

I have been installing garage doors for 12 years now. In that time I have accrued experience with nearly every brand, make and model of garage doors and openers. I do have a bachelor's degree in Geology. I am educated, but find the freedom of working for myself to be extremely enjoyable! While my geology degree has nothing directly to do with the installation of garage doors, my college education in a hard science has definitely aided me in my quest to run my own business.

I do have standard pricing sheet for standard doors and openers. For instance, 7' Liftmaster chain drive openers are $350 installed with tax. A spring change on a standard double car residential door is $180 for two springs installed. For most jobs that wander even slightly from the standard, I must first price the doors from my suppliers, then work out a quote.

I actually started working part time during my first time in college at Colorado State University. I enjoyed the work and turned it into a full-time career. I just recently opened my own company. I do not want that to dissuade customers. We all have to start somewhere!

I have worked with homeowners, building owners, rental property management companies, commercial entities, businesses, contractors, and new home builders on residential and commercial jobs.

In my media section, I have pictures of a large building with eight garage doors that have high lift and roof pitch track combined. The customer desired to park his car collection in the garage. He purchased car lifts that would allow him to park his cars one on top of another. Therefore, he needed the garage doors to travel very close to the ceiling! The ceiling had graduated roof pitch, meaning that it changed pitch in the middle of the area where the doors traveled. This presented a very interesting and challenging problem in the design of the door track, a unique problem that I had not seen in my eleven years experience installing! Careful measurements were taken and I am proud to say that the doors ran very smoothly and matched his specifications! The install itself took four days. Ordering custom materials in that bulk, unfortunately, took over a month. Please keep this in mind when ordering custom doors!

There are many competitors in the garage door business. I suggest getting multiple quotes, but beware of the possibility that you may not be getting apples for apples quotes on door type and quality, please do some research prior to buying. There are some very shady companies in the garage door business, especially in terms of general door or opener service call charges. They will entice you with a $25 service call price, then end up charging you ridiculous sums for simple fixes. Please get a second quote if a basic service call, with basic SMALL parts (including springs and struts), exceeds somewhere in the neighborhood of $350, most service calls should be south of that! Larger companies have employees or pieceworkers that are not necessarily very highly paid. Some of these individuals may be excellent workers and pay very close attention to detail, others will not. Sometimes going with the smaller company will net you more personalized service and higher quality work.

Customers should do some research into what brands and models they are interested in. All major door manufacturers have excellent websites with beautiful photos and a ton of information on their products. After many years installing and servicing many brands I strongly recommend Clopay and Ankmar doors to every customer. For garage door openers I would suggest Liftmaster/Chamberlain. Please stay away from Genie and Marantech, they are very poorly made machines. Customers should have a general budget in mind prior to talking to a professional. Please communicate clearly your desired time frame. Keep in mind that custom doors are often made in entirely different states, then shipped to Colorado. Sometimes it can take quite some time to complete a project from planning to finished project!
