Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first step with a new client is to set up a time to meet and look at your garden or project. Before commiting to a job, we want to make sure that Soe Harvest is the right fit for you. We also want to go over our pricing, making sure you know exactly what you're paying for.
Once we've agreed to work together, we send over a contract and deposit invoice (if needed) electronically and get you on our schedule. Typically, you'll know when we'll be completing the work within a few days of when you hire Soe Harvest.
At the end of the job, we send our final invoice electronically. For our recurring maintenance clients, we invoice on the 1st of each month.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our founder, Jessi, has a degree in urban farming and over ten years of experience in urban farming and sustainable landscaping. Among the staff, we have more than thirty years of experience in the landscaping industry, and are always learning more through formal and informal education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
For our weekly/biweekly maintenaince clients, we charge $35 per hour of work, plus the cost of any supplies such as mulch or fertilizer. Most residential gardens can be maintained for around $140 per month.
For our one time jobs, such as yard clean-ups or mulch installation, we charge $40 per hour, plus the cost of supplies and waste disposal.
If we design a custom garden for you, our pricing begins at $500.
How did you get started in this business?
Soe Harvest is a passion project started in 2016 by Jessi Burg after years of growing food in urban settings. Here in Colorado, we have limited resources and our landscaping and food production systems are resource intensive.
At Soe Harvest, we believe in planting for our ecosystem, creating landscapes that are beautiful and functional. By integrating edible plants into landscapes, we also reduce the distance from farm to table, reducing water consumption and our carbon footprint along the way.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with homeowners, landlords, HOAs, and businesses to create and maintain a variety of landscapes.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask a lot of questions, even if you're not sure what you need or what you're looking for. There are a lot of great gardeners out there, but you're looking for someone who will answer questions in a way that makes sense to you. If you're looking for someone to design or build your garden, make sure anyone you hire has talked to you about the basics, like how you plan to water and how much time you would like to commit each season.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
I always advocate that clients think through what they really want out of their garden. Do you like the idea of having a garden, but don't know where to start? Who will do the mainenance? What's your budget for the initial installation, and how much do you want to spend to maintain it afterward? How do you plan to water? Knowing what level of service you're looking for will help you evaluate which professional is the best fit.
