    Frequently asked questions

Typically I will start by asking basic questions such as: do you have plans, have they been submitted to the city or approved, have you selected fixtures, what is your projected start date, will you live in the home during construction, etc... I will then provide a detailed quote and projected timeframe for construction. If we agree to move forward I will provide a contract and schedule the work.

I am a licensed general contractor. After working for my grandfather I took over managing his company in 2015 and obtained my own license in 2019. I was trained by my father and grandfather who both spent their lives as carpenters and general contractors, and now I have taken over the family trade.

I can offer rough estimates using general pricing, but each project is so unique that I don't use standardized pricing.

I began by taking over my grandfathers office management in 2011. He was a licensed contractor for over 40 years. I then started running jobs with my dad, who was his head of construction at the time, until I started running the business around 2015. I then activated my own license in 2019.

We mainly focus on remodels, additions and general maintenance for residential customers. But we have also done small commercial jobs and custom homes.

Being able to work with my dad, brother and other family members is really satisfying in and of itself. When I had my own license approved was a very satisfying moment for me as well, as it validated the experience I've accumulated. But recently, I'd say that the fact that I'm still operational as a small family business after the adversity we've faced during this pandemic is the thing I'm most fond of at the moment.

I would advise them to look beyond the bottom line price of an estimate. There's a lot more going into the job than just the cost, and it should really be more about the connection you have with a contractor. If the contractor really understands your vision and you feel comfortable with the way they communicate, you'll end up having a much more pleasant experience and will probably be a lot happier with the end result.

It really depends on your level of knowledge and how well you understand what it is you're looking to have done. If you only have a general idea of what you want to do, it's likely that you need a lot of guidance. You probably need a contact for an architect, design ideas, and to check the overall feasability of your job. If you already have plans, you may only need to confirm more specific details like whether or not it's realistic to live at home during construction or how long the work will take.

One thing you should ask every contractor is if their license is current and active. And take it a step further by looking their license up on the CSLB website.
