About

My name is Jesse and I'm a certified professional dog trainer and behavioral consultant, as well as the owner of Proud Paws Dog Training. I have been coaching clients privately in their homes for more than 10 years and have in-depth experience as a shelter behavior team manager. In an industry that is unregulated, I prioritize continued education and credentials, as well providing a supportive and compassionate learning experience for my clients and their furry family members. I specialize in puppy foundations and socialization, leash reactivity and dogs with 'big feelings', but also offer assistance with many other challenges with the exception of severe human directed aggression and separation anxiety. The day to day can be stressful and overwhelming with a dog that has behavior challenges and my goal is to help you turn those struggles into a strong connection, better communication and a life with your dog you can feel proud of.

    Frequently asked questions

I have a Bachelor of Science in Animal Management and am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Council of Certified Professional Dog Trainers.

I managed and trained teams of shelter staff and volunteers for severeal years in dog handling, running an entire behavior and training program that included working with difficult dogs, behavioral assessments and modification, enrichment and playgroups and teaching group classes. My role also included collaborating closely with adoptions, community outreach and animal care departments.

My qualifications additionally include a Diploma in Childcare and Education through which I worked privately with children in different age groups for many years. I am passionate about creating safe, compassionate relationships between children and their pets.

Continuing education within my field and remaining up to date with methods and techniques is also of great importance to me and necessary to maintain my CPDT-KA credential.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been curious about the natural world, feeling a close connection to nature and passionate about animal welfare and human-animal relationships. During my degree I began working with a variety of domestic and exotic animals, as well as taking travel opportunities to work with wildlife species such as elephants, lions and a variety of primate species, spending a lot of time studying behavior, game management, poaching trends and human-animal conflict resolution in many parts of Africa. I transitioned to shelter work here in the U.S with dogs and cats leading teams of staff and volunteers and heading collaborative projects in behavior, adoptions, outreach and animal care. I developed a sense of obligation to pet owners, pet education and to the community.

I felt developing my own business working privately with people and their dogs gave me the best opportunity to support these relationships.
