Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet the customer and get an idea of their vision for their project not just a specific job. With a over all big picture I can better serve my customers by making suggestions that will bring their dream to reality.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started working for my uncle who is a general contractor at the age of 13 and I've worked in the construction and automotive fields my whole life.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I like to price my jobs in a way that gives the customer the best bang for their buck. Some jobs are by the hour and others by the job. If I feel a job may take longer because one of my guys is learning as we go I charge by the job. It's not my customers responsibility to pay for my guys training. If the job is one all employees are familiar with and proficient I charge by the hour. Hourly rates are $65 an hour with a minimum of 1 hour for 1 guy and $100 an hour for 2 guys and $50 an hour for each guy added
How did you get started in this business?
I was tired of commuting and was looking for work closer to home so I could spend time with my wife and new born son and my savings was faster disappearing but I was determined to never commute again. And I was getting restless not working so I started helping people with projects off next door just being neighborly and after the fifth or sixth person suggested I should do that for a living I decided to take a chance and I haven't looked back or regretted anything except not doing It sooner.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with homeowners, renters, business owners, property management companies, realtors, general contractors you name it I've probably worked with them.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
It's not a specific event more of a series of events. I work closely with a property management company in Brentwood and I've got a reputation as the fixer of odd jobs/problems. We had a stretch of very odd problems pop up at a shopping center and we have to move fast to keep the property owner from getting fined. I get calls at odd hours for the strangest things. Homeless sleeping on roofs, graffiti, all sprinklers broke with water going everywhere. And no matter whT it was I got it done and it feels really good to have someone rely on you to that extent.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Get multiple quotes and ask for references within the last 6 months and the last job they did.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Does the job require a permit. If it's a job that will make some portion of your home non operational such as a kitchen or bathroom remodeling what are you going to do while those areas are shut down. And plan on things taking longer then expected.
