Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first contact with customers is generally over the phone. Most calls are answered by either Ben (the owner) or Amy (Ben's wife and handy dandy assistant). We discuss your particular plumbing or gas issues and, if possible, provide a general quote over the phone. When necessary we provide free on site quotes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Ben, the owner and master plumber and gas fitter, has over 20 years of experience in the plumbing industry. Each and every one of those years has been spent in central Alabama, so there is no plumbing, drain, or gas problem that he hasn't already seen. He started out in the business as an apprentice and worked his way up to journeyman, and eventually became a master plumber and master gas fitter.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We generally have a flat rate system in place. Those rates are determined by the time that particular job usually takes and the cost of any parts that are required to do the job. This ensures that our prices are the same for everyone.
How did you get started teaching?
Ben fell into plumbing after high school. He started behind the counter of a plumbing supply house where I became acquainted with a lot of plumbers. One of them offer him a job as an apprentice, and that was the beginning of his journey to becoming a master plumber and gas fitter, as well as a business owner.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Every type!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We're people lovers! Plumbing can be a grueling job. It's very physical, and at times not so much fun, however, getting to meet so many different people, and hopefully having a positive impact on their lives is what makes it great, regardless of whether we're at their house for an hour, or half a day (depending on the job, of course!).
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have their plumbing and/or gas license. Plumbers are required to carry them when they are working, and should have no problem showing it to a customer upon request. The Alabama Plumbing and Gas Board lists their card holders on their website, and it is fully accessible to the public. The BBB bureau is also a good resource.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
There is no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away! We're happy to walk you through any questions or concerns.
