Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With new customers, we initially connect over phone or email and discuss thewdetails of the work to be done. Then, we schedule a time that works with both of our schedules to do a home visit and give a good cost estimate. Once we come to an agreement on the price, we can start work right then or schedule a time to come back and perform all of the work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- Graduate of Naval Nuclear Power School in the electrician track.
- Served 6 years as a Navy Electricians Mate (nuclear) doing installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of reactor plant electrical systems onboard nuclear powered aircraft carriers.
- Worked 2 years as an electrical field engineer, and an additional year as a project manager for commercial/industrial electrical construction.
- Licensed Master Electrician in DC, Maryland, and Virginia
- Class A Contractors license in Virginia (license endorsements in electrical and fire alarm systems).
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in electrical power.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
$125 fee for the initial visit/estimate to cover the travel and the time to put together the paperwork the estimate. But, if you decide to work with Burrow and Son Electric after receiving the estimate, that fee is waived and will be taken out of the total cost of the work.
How did you get started in this business?
My father was a superintendent for highway bridge construction and worked as a general contractor during evenings/weekends. I started working as a laborer with his contracting work at 14, and have been in construction every since.
I went into electrical work after discovering my interest in the work while serving as an electrician in the Navy.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Every customer I've had the pleasure of working with has been fantastic, so I have nothing but high remarks on that side.
With those customers I've worked on all ranges of projects from new home construction, home renovations, repairs, testing, commissioning, fire alarms, and home theater systems.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Being selected as an IEC National (Independent Electrical Contractors) Emerging Leader for 2020. It was a great honor and I hope to live up to the award.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Always ask for licenses and proof of insurance. Any reputable contractor should have these readily available and have no issues providing them to you (or giving you a link to the state website to verify the license).
I would be suspicious of anyone who could not produce a license in good standing for the work you want done.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Make sure you have a clear idea in your mind of the work you want done and be ready to explain it to the contractor who will be doing the work. The more clear the customers intentions are, the easier it is for the contractor to give them exactly what they are looking for.
