Competitive Hardwoods was founded in 2004. Over the next 17 years, Competitive has served McKinney and the surrounding areas with service and craftsmanship at their core. We specialize in hardwood installation and sand & refinish but provide installation of all flooring types.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our typical process includes a home visit to discuss the scope of work and measurements.
Then we send an estimate within 24-48 hours.
If estimate is accepted we bring flooring choices to customer to make choices in their home lighting and environment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Competitive Hardwood & Flooring was established after a 25 year career as an installer. With the hands on knowledge and a network of qualified installers, there isn't too much that we haven't seen when it comes to flooring.
We are members of The National Wood Flooring Association and our installers are insured and trained.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We do not have a standard pricing system. Due to the custom nature of flooring installations, this is done on a project by project basis.
How did you get started in this business?
The business was established in 2004 by Larry Miller, a verteran installer of hardwood flooring, then sold in 2020 to Tommy Junker. Tommy is an industry veteran with experience in retail, distribution, manufcaturing and product development. Tommy's passion for flooring began in high school while helping his parents rehab houses in the Dallas - Fort Worth meteroplex. Over the next 20 years Tommy finished school and climbed the corporate ladder with some of the most well-known flooring distributors and manufacturers. After traveling internationally to develop flooring products, Tommy decided it was time to stay close to home with his family. He now, uses his flooring expertise to design and manage the installation of flooring in residential homes, as owner of Competitive Hardwoods.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We recently refinished a 2 1/4 Red Oak floor that was very worn and scratched up after years of kids and dogs. The homeowner had dark brown floors but wanted to lighten up her space. We recomended sanding and refinsihing with a neutral stain that brought out the light and bright character of the wood. The customer was head over heals and now her neighbors are all following suit.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask questions! Make sure you're fully aware of the whole process before starting.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is your end goal? Are you just wanting to freshen up your floors and keep the same look? Do you want something a bit different and modern? Where will you store your furniture during the process?
