Eugene H. says, "Forewarning Im not the best at typing so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors! Owner Justin was great!I have become quite the skeptic because customer service and quality just isn't like it was 20, 30, 40 year back. But I chose this contractor cause His initial email stood out and was very informative, professinal, and well spoken. And very fast response time. He cold sense my skepticism so he provided us with an abundance of credentials from electrical, property management and construction design license and certifications, several awards hes achieved, copy of insurance, simple but effective contract and references, receipts, the whole nine. Communication is huge to me and he was very attentive, knowledgeable, listens very well, and made sure to deliver exactly what i requested. My only complaint for giving- 4 stars- wasnt directed towards Justin. It was cause a guy working for him was on his phone a lot when Justin wasnt looking but I made justin aware of this and he dealt with the issue immediately and we had no more issues. Would definitely recommmend his services. Im glad to provide reference and any questions (937)583-3100 " Read more

Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Patio Cover and Awning Services questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does a covered patio installation cost?

The cost of a covered patio typically ranges from $50 to $150 per square foot, depending on the type, materials, and complexity of the design. For a standard 200-square-foot patio large enough for a table and chairs, the total cost is around $10,000 to $22,500 to install the patio and a cover.

The lower end of this range usually includes simpler designs with basic materials like wood or aluminum, while the higher end encompasses more luxurious options such as stone pavers or intricate roofing structures. Additional features like built-in lighting and ceiling fans can significantly increase the overall cost.

Can you add solar panels to a covered patio?

You can add solar panels to a covered patio, which is a great way to use space and generate energy. Before doing this, check if your patio gets enough sunlight and is strong enough to hold the panels. Usually, the panels are placed on top of the patio cover, which might need extra support.

Consult a solar installer for advice on whether your patio is suitable for solar panels. They can help you choose the right type of panels and ensure everything meets local building codes. While the upfront cost may be high, the long-term savings on energy bills can make it a smart investment.

Can you grill under a covered patio?

You can grill under a covered patio, but you need to be careful about safety. Make sure there’s enough space between the grill and the patio cover—at least 10 feet above and 3 feet on the sides—to prevent fires.

Good ventilation is also important to avoid smoke buildup. You might want to place the grill near the edge of the patio or install a vent hood for better airflow. Using an electric grill or one designed for covered areas can also help keep things safe. With these precautions, grilling under your covered patio can be enjoyable and safe.

Can you use a patio header under a covered patio?

Using a patio heater under a covered patio is a great way to stay warm in cooler weather. Electric heaters are usually safer because they don’t have open flames or produce harmful gases. If you choose a propane heater, make sure it’s designed for covered spaces.

Always follow safety guidelines, like keeping enough distance between the heater and any flammable materials. Check the manufacturer's instructions for specific clearance requirements. Having proper ventilation is key to preventing heat buildup. With these tips in mind, you can enjoy your covered patio even when it’s chilly outside.

How do I choose a covered patio installer?

Choosing the right installer for your covered patio is essential to ensure a successful project. Follow these suggestions:

  • Experience: Look for contractors with a solid track record in patio installation.
  • Licensing and insurance: Verify that they are licensed and insured for your protection.
  • Portfolio: Review their past work to assess quality and style.
  • Local knowledge: Ensure they understand local building codes and climate conditions.
  • References: Ask for customer testimonials to gauge satisfaction.

What questions should I ask a covered patio installer?

When selecting a covered patio installer, ask these questions to ensure you make an informed decision:

  • What is your experience with covered patio installations?
  • Can you provide references from previous clients?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • What materials do you recommend for my project?
  • How long will the installation take?
  • What is included in your quote?
  • Do you handle permits and inspections?
  • What is your warranty policy?
  • How do you address drainage and site preparation?
  • Will you provide a detailed contract outlining the work?
