I have been a residential/ commercial electrician for more than 25 years. I have seen first hand every stage of construction and it still is impressive to me. I enjoy being part of that. I believe my experience in the field really helped me to become a great inspector. Not everyone these days takes pride in their work, I do. I take home inspection seriously, roughly 8 years ago I became an institute certified inspector. Shortly after, I tested and became a nationally certified home inspector. Buying a home is a big decision and investment and I think they deserve someone on their side to give them honest opinions backed by experience. Just be aware of the fact that Ohio is one of a handful of states that doesn't yet require an Inspector to be certified. If in doubt, ask them to show you their certification.
What I enjoy most about inspecting for people is that I'm able to answer any questions and concerns they may have. They deserve someone knowledgeable on their side. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Well, I ask the customer a few questions to get me started. What's the square footage, location, ranch or 2 story, age, disclosed information about the age of the roof. We're asked to give an approximate age of the roof, but being that there are new materials used today and different manufacturing processes, it's very difficult. I can visually determine the condition, but for age I'm forced to rely on the sellers disclosed information. After I get those answers, I can then give the customer a price. We set up a time and a way for me to get access to the property, and being that people are so busy these days, I ask that they meet me towards the end of the inspection so that I can go over my findings, and give them their report.
