Sustainergy Cooperative

Sustainergy Cooperative, founded in 2013 in Cincinnati, OH, is a worker-owned union co-op specializing in solar energy and building performance for homes and businesses across Greater Cincinnati, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky. The company designs and installs rooftop solar and battery storage and delivers comprehensive energy efficiency services, including free energy assessments, attic and wall insulation, crawl space encapsulation, air sealing, insulation removal, and indoor air quality and mold remediation.

Using a building-science approach informed by Building Performance Institute certification, Sustainergy identifies low-cost, high-impact upgrades and right-sizes solar arrays after reducing a property’s energy load. Services can include blower door testing, infrared diagnostics, and a range of insulation materials such as cellulose, fiberglass, foam, and rigid board. The team also assists with incentives and financing for solar and energy efficiency projects.

As a cooperative whose workers are members of the United Steelworkers, the company emphasizes fair labor practices and donates 10% of profits to Coop Cincy. Recognitions include Certified 513 Green (2024), the Green Umbrella IMPACT Award (2023), and the Cincinnati Business Courier CLIMB Award (2022).
