Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Inspections are scheduled at the convenience of the Buyer and usually take between 2-4 hours. I fill out the Report back at my office and add pictures of Areas of Concern. The Report is emailed out by the nex morning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Carpenter/Contractor from 1972 to 1989
Licensed Contractor in Canton Ohio, 1976-1989
American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) member, 1989-present, requiring at least 20 houres of CE per year to maintain membership
Associate degree inApplied Science, Building Preservation/Restoration, Belmont College, St. Clairsville, Ohio
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I Charge by the Square Foot, starting at $395.00 for Houses up to 2,000 SqFt.
How did you get started in this business?
In 1988 a bad back prevented me from working with my tools. I had also read a article about the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and decided to join, take their test and do the required 250 Home Inspections, so that I could use their Logo and advertize myself as a ASHI member.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work for anyone buying a Home and have worked for some sellers preparing their Homes for sale.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the Inspector is a full member of ASHI. In Ohio there is no Licensing of Home Inspectors. ASHI Inspectors are required to take 20 hours of CE to maintain their membership.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
When setting a budget for your next house, don't forget to allow for the cost of yearly Maintance and Future Improvements. Overspending on the House may leave little money for Monthly Utility Bills and needed or desired Improvements.
