Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A customer either messages via Facebook or text asking for removal. OR I see someone needs scrap removal on Facebook, freebies or some other means and I contact them and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My wife actually grew up helping her grandpa and uncle run and collect scrap metals. No training needed just remember to lift with my legs not with my back and that leverage is my friend when moving heavy objects. 😊
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Prices are not flat it's per job. Sometimes I remove scrap for free, per individual circumstances. If I have to remove from inside a home or in a basement there will be a surcharge discussed at time of quote. If I have to travel over 20 miles there is an additional gas fee also to be discussed and depending on the mileage
How did you get started in this business?
I was in between jobs about a year ago and we had broken stuff around the house my wife suggested I scrap it. From then on I've been hooked, this is not only my income but a hobby. There are sometimes really interesting treasures.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Mostly just people that need large, heavy things removed such as refrigerators. We've cleaned out a couple of businesses. One hydraulic/pneumatic company, a cnc shop, an elderly lady whom needed junk removed from her yard because city ordinance.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My wife and I spent 12 hours cleaning out a business. I get to spend my days and nights riding around with the love of my life finding not only scrap but interesting treasures as well. For instance my wife found a brass hear no evil, see no evil, hear no evil statue.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Not every person doing scrap removal is worth hiring. A lot whom offer by posting on marketplace or freebies, leave a mess when they're done or pick and choose and leave stuff for garbage pick up. We do not judge you, your mess, we are respectful of you and your property.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
The amount of materials they're scraping, is this metal? The location of items, is this something extremely heavy, is my refrigerator cleaned out of food, is my washer empty of water, does it need moved upstairs, are the doorways too small to fit large items through without damaging the door frames or in some cases the molding has been removed. You would be surprised at some things people have pulled. 1 guy had us come get a washer and dryer out of his basement once we tried to move it, it was extremely heavy and then stagnant water spilled all over my wife. And apparently it was a rental property and the tenants moved a year before so it was year old dirty washer water and it stunk.
