Downward Dog Canine Transformation
About
Maureen is unlike any other trainer in the area because her expertise is not limited to obedience training. Maureen trained with Cesar Millan ("The Dog Whisperer") who helped her develop her talent for incorporating dog psychology into dog training and behavior modification. As a result, Maureen is uniquely capable of teaching her clients how to understand the underlying causes of their dog's behavior, as well as the role that humans play in creating or perpetuating certain behaviors. Maureen's clients learn to communicate with their dogs in ways that are meaningful to the dogs and have lasting benefits for training and behavior modification. Maureen's goal for all dogs and their owners is a life of peace, balance and good times.
Helping clients unlock a deeper and more organic bond with their dogs that allows them to better understand and connect with their pups.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
All sessions take place in the client's home unless the dog is doing a "board & train" in my home.
We begin with a phone consultation at no charge to discuss the client's goals, behavior concerns, and what training/rehabilitation strategies might be appropriate. I do not make a formal recommendation until I meet the dog(s). All phone consults are free of charge.
The next step is the first session which is both an assessment and the beginning of the training/rehab. I use session 1 not only to do foundational work with the dog, but also to give clients an understanding of my strategies and expectations. While individual sessions cost $100 each, if the client decides to purchase a pre-paid package of sessions, I will discount all sessions (including session 1) to $80 each. Clients can make that decision during session 1, after they meet me and see me work with their dog.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The vast majority of my training and education has been hands on, working with trainers who range from Police K9 experts & Navy Seal K9 to a multitude of obedience training experts with diverse philosophies about training. My role in dog rescue (see below about how I got my start) required me to assess a dog's behavior, his/her needs, and the best training/rehab approach for the individual dog. From there, I collaborated with trainers to meet the needs of hundreds of dogs and to eventually develop an entire behavior program for our dog rescue for which I became the mentor of a team of behavior volunteers.
Formally, I trained with Cesar Millan of "The Dog Whisperer" show, Brian Agnew of The Balance Dog, and Cheri Lucas of Lucas Agnew.
I am a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).

How did you get started in this business?
I have been training and rehabilitating dogs for over a decade with the majority of my training and education being hands on with hundreds of dogs in shelters amd dog rescues whose behavior modification was a matter of life and death. In 2010, I founded a pitbull rescue in Louisville, KY to address the desperate situation and victimization of pit bulls. As part of the rescue, I built a behavior program to rehabilitate homeless dogs and improve adoption rates, as well as to offer free behavior intervention to low income families to help them Keep their dogs and avoid surrendering them to a shelter.
I have worked with and learned from a multitude of trainers over the years and my skill set reflects a diversity of experience, ranging from separation anxiety to aggression and everything in between.
