Imagine Dog Training
About
I work with all shapes/sizes of dogs, and am very familiar with the special needs of rescue dogs. I've owned, fostered, and trained rescue dogs for multiple organizations. All dogs, no matter how old or whatever their previous situation can learn new things and adapt to new situations. I believe in leadership training which doesn't rely on buying good behavior with treats or forcing it through a shock collar and pain. Most people already have the skills they need, and only have to be shown how to apply them in a way their dog understands.
I love helping dogs stay in their homes and achieve better relationships with their humans. Training dogs doesn't have to be all hard work. It can also be a lot of fun. Showing people how to have fun while making progress to their training goals is very rewarding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I recommend the first step be a quick phone call to discuss your dog training needs. That way I can make an initial assessment and give you some idea of how I would address the issues. If my analysis and methods sound good to you, then we can schedule a time for a private lesson. After the lesson, I send a written document via email covering all the things we discussed during the lesson. It's hard to remember everything someone tells you while also concentrating on your dog. This way you have a document which you can refer to later to help remind you of all the details.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and continually pursue knowledge and training on all dog related issues. I ran a successful pet care business, and volunteered with local rescue organizations. I also worked for other dog training companies before striking out on my own independent venture.

What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of people and many breeds of dogs. Owning a dog is one of those things which crosses all cultural and class divides. Once you fall in love with a dog, there's no going back.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Talk to several trainers first to see who you best connect with. A trainer can be absolutely magnificent, but if they don't explain how to work with your dog in ways you understand clearly, it won't end up being very helpful.
Ask each trainer what their methodology is, and why they believe in it.
Discuss the specific problems you're having and ask for a general description of how each trainer would address the issue. The analysis and advice may change once the trainer actually meets your dog and can more accurately assess the situation, however, it's good to have some idea of what to expect from a training session.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
How much time do you have to work with your dog each day?
Can you commit to at least a month of working with your dog daily to change the behaviors which are bothering you?
Who all in your household needs to be there for the training session?
