Andrew says, "I have been using Kelley and Smyrna Paw Pals for well over a year and our dog Terra absolutely loves all her sitters. They are very professional and do a great job informing you of anything going on with your pet. The pup cards at the end of every walk with images is a great touch to let you really see how your pet is doing." Read more

I enjoy what I do and it shows. Always an animal lover in every way, get along with even the most stubborn or shy family members, considered a "dog" person my whole life, of course that extends to felines as well. Pets are family, and I take pride that I am able to care for your precious little, or not so little, ones while you are away for the day, night, or extended period. It is my pleasure.

Exemplary grooming services that come to you. I also offer pet sitting or walking. I was a veterinary assistant for 2 years prior to becoming a groomer so staying calm and proper handling are two key elements I have. I love meeting new pets. The change in a dog from the beginning of the grooming process to the end is always a fun thing to see. It is a mix of a job and an art. It is nice to be creative and help fur babies look their best!

Your dog sitting questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

Dog sitters charge $10 to $20 per hour for a drop-in visit or $35 to $65 per night, depending on your location. Dog sitters may charge more for holidays or if your home is outside of their service area. Costs may also increase if your dog has special needs.

While dog sitters do not expect a tip, tipping 15% to 20% of the total bill is common. Tip on the low end if your sitter did everything they agreed to do. Consider tipping more if they exceeded your expectations or handled any unexpected problems or emergencies.

Dog sitters come to your home and care for your dog while you are away. Drop-in visits typically last 30 minutes and include feeding, walking, and some play or cuddle time. Overnight visits may be at your home or the sitter's home and give your dog more time and attention than a drop-in visit.

Hiring a dog sitter gives your dog more personalized attention than a pet boarding facility and is a great option for dogs who deal with separation anxiety, dogs who do not do well in a kennel or around other animals, and older, less agile dogs.

Most dog sitters offer drop-in visits and overnight options, with overnight stays typically costing more. Many dogs do fine with only drop-in visits for feeding, walking, and some attention. Consider overnight sittings if your pet has high separation anxiety or needs more attention than a short visit provides.

When searching for a dog sitter, be sure to:

  • Choose a sitter who has a licensed and insured business.
  • Ask if they belong to any professional organizations, such as the National association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS), Professional United Pet Sitters (P.U.P.S.), or the Association of Pet Sitting Excellence (APSE).
  • Review their profile and feedback on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Ask for and check their references.
  • Arrange a meet and greet beforehand to make sure he or she is a good fit for both you and your dog.

Ask the following questions to ensure you find the best dog sitter near you:

  • What experience do you have?
  • Do you specialize in specific animals or breeds?
  • Do you belong to any professional organizations?
  • Are you trained in pet CPR?
  • Can we schedule a meet and greet beforehand?
  • What is included in your standard rate?
  • What is the rate if I have more than one dog?
  • How and when do I pay for the service?
  • Do you offer dog monitoring service?
  • How long do you stay?
  • Can you give my dog medication?
  • Do you offer any house-sitting services in addition to dog sitting?
  • What is your protocol if there is an emergency or if my dog needs immediate medical attention?
  • How do I get in touch with you while I'm away?
  • Will you update me after each visit?

The grooming experience for the first time with Linda was awesome. I took my aunt's poodle for the first time to get a haircut. He was full of hair. When I picked him up he was so handsome. She was great. She's very passionate in what she does. Very convenient and close to home. I will most definitely refer her to all my family and friends that need her services.

As East Cobb resident we have been loyal Distinctive Petsitting clients for over six years. Letting someone in your home on a daily basis to take care of members of your family requires a very high level of trust, and DPI has never let us down. When we started working with them, we had three senior dogs who they lovingly treated as their own during each daily visit and when we went out of town. As our dogs aged and experienced various health issues and mobility limitations, DPI was very flexible in meeting our needs. With heavy heart, we recently lost our last angel, a Jack Russell Terrier who we had for 17 years and DPI treated her like the princess she was until the very end. We now have two new hound puppies that require a very different level of attention. From the time we got our boys at 12 weeks old, Distinctive has helped support us with their potty and behavioral training. Chase, who provides their daily care, is absolutely amazing. He literally gets down on the ground and rough houses with them and they LOVE it! I even have had my housekeeper comment on how wonderful he is with the boys and how much time he spends with them. And whenever we go out of town, I have 100% confidence that my fur babies and home will be kept safe and well cared for.

Pawfect Pets was an experience above any I have experienced. T'Era was very hands on with my puppy as well as with me; giving me updates daily, with pictures, texts, and social media. I would recommend her 10/10 to any of my friends and family because I know they'd be in good hands! I will definitely be going back to her again with all my puppy needs!
