The Balanced Dog Training And Behavior Services
About
Each owner and dog are different and have different relationships in mind. I respect this uniqueness and vary my approach to suit the person and dog.
Working one on one, I really listen to my clients' needs and assess their dog's behavior. This lets me find the perfect combo of training, behavior modification and life enrichment activities that will solve their current problems and set them up to have a great future of fun and companionship.
I am certified by the main two international certifying bodies for dog behavior professionals ( IAABC and CCPDT) and I create and teach classes for up and coming professional dog behavior certificants at www.e-trainingfordogs.com.
My 35 years hands on experience in training and competing with working dogs, breeding performance dogs and teaching pet owners is constantly renewed to keep current with scientific and motivational methods. I never stop learning. I offer my clients the ideal combination of practical experience and "book learning". In fact, I am back in college getting a degree in neuroscience and back in coaching with my new puppy learning the latest new methods.
On top of all this, I have respect for my clients as well as a sense of humor. My methods are never harsh for dogs or people.
Talk to me and you'll get a sense of the difference.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First there is a brief phone interview to make sure that I offer the exact services the client needs. Next the client answers some questions about the background of the dog and any issues it's having. Then we meet in person for a prolonged session to do a complete assessment of the dog and explain a tentative customized program for them. Then we get started right in the first session to work with the dog along with starting a progress journal to create a lasting record of what we're doing so the owner can refer back to it in the future. At each session, we review what was learned previously, answer any questions the owner has, tweak any weak areas and introduce the new behaviors the dog needs to learn and/or take the basic behaviors to a new level of proficiency. We also work on a structured set of enrichment interactions geared to the individuals but which may include body work (massage), structured games, calming exercises, etc.
