About
About a decade ago, I began working for a veterinary office part time in their kennel. Man! I had no clue what I was up for but it was something I had never tried before so I thought why not?
I quickly found that I loved it and it definitely took a special type of person to do the job. Working in the kennel meant giving up a lot of time that most would fill with going out to movies, spending the weekends on the lake, or holiday dinners with their family. I found that I was perfectly ok with spending time with someone else's pet and seeing their eyes light up when I came walking through that door. I moved up to become a technician and receptionist and began working in veterinary full time.
The day came where a client, the owner of my most favorite boarding patient Macy, asked if I knew of anyone who would come to their home to watch Macy, because despite her always happy demeanor, she would have terrible waves of anxiety when she would board. I volunteered and the rest was history!
Nothing is more rewarding then walking through the door and seeing a pet's eyes light up and their entire body wiggle with happiness when they see you!

How did you get started in this business?
I was approached to work in a veterinary kennel part time and thought why not learn something new? I found that it took a very special type of person to do that job. It meant giving up a lot of time that most would fill with going out, etc but I was perfectly ok with that!
The day came where a client, the owner of my most favorite boarding patient Macy, an Aussie Shepherd Husky mix, asked if I knew of anyone who would come to their home to watch Macy, despite her always happy demeanor, she would have terrible anxiety while boarding. I volunteered and the rest was history! The office I worked for would refer their high anxiety or elderly patients to me!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all sorts of clients from all walks of life. The same goes with pets - young to senior, energetic to relaxed, sweet to sassy, etc.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Please make sure that you always have a meet and greet between you and your pet sitter. Always ask for references and don't be afraid to ask for updates! And the more details on your pet(s) the better!
