Your Best Friend's Friend

We have been in business for 24 years and have excellent ratings on Yelp and Google. All of our team members are huge pet lovers with a lot of experience, including some vet techs. They have all gone through extensive background checks, and we are bonded and insured. Most importantly though, we truly all love what we do and always strive to give the very best care to our wonderful clients. We love arriving at homes welcomed by happy faces and giving them some love and attention while their parents are not there. It is also the best feeling to see a shy, timid pet come to love you and know you made a difference in their day!

Stephanie G. says, "I will recommend Hott Tails to everyone I know. At the time I got my American cocker spaniel I was worried whoever I took him to would not listen to the way I wanted his haircut to be and would go a route I would not like. The moment I spoke with Codi she listened to every detail ( cocker skirt, don't trim his eyelashes, leave his beard and mustache, etc) and I was more then happy with how he turned out! She has been my groomer for 2 years now and the best part is shes gentle when grooming. Eddie (cocker) can ve anxious around people but he trusts her. Ive referred her to all of my friends and family and every time their animals look amazing. She is mobile which is convenient, and her expertise on grooming is fantastic. Hands down I will never find another person that will groom my eddie like she can!" Read more

A Touch Of Golden Class

My name is Kathy. My life has revolved around dogs for decades. I have been breeding and training dogs since 2000, starting in Upstate New York where I bred Golden Retrievers. This wasn't a business decision; it was a labor of love born from my adoration for the breed. It all started with our first owned family Golden retriever named, Cuervo. Because she was family first, I was incredibly careful with my breeding program. I wanted to keep the line "clean" and healthy. We waited until her third heat to ensure she was mature enough, never bred her back-to-back, and prioritized her health above all else. Long before "dog trainer" was a common ...

I had 5 puppies when I was 6-8. A k9 at 11. I had 14 cats at once time once 12 kittens 2 moms for 4 months also 2 mommas a dad 8 kittens once I have a lot of experience with pets worked part time at a vet for 3 months! I’ve helped 6 cats during and with birth. I helped a squirrel that got hit by a car and helped a bird that had a broken wing. Your Dog Walking questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much do dog walkers charge?

Dog walkers charge $10 to $35 per walk or $30 to $60 per hour, depending on your location, number of dogs, and the number of walks you schedule. Some dog walkers charge 50% more if you have two dogs, but you may find one that offers discounted weekly or monthly rates for pre-scheduling ongoing walking services.

  • Holidays typically add $5 to $10 extra per walk
  • Many dog walkers also offer a $5 to $10 discount if they can walk your dog with other dogs.

Do you tip dog walkers?

While most dog walkers do not expect a tip, tipping 15% to 20% is a good rule of thumb to show your appreciation for their good service or if your dog needs special care or handling. Leaving a positive online review also shows appreciation while helping them build their business.

What does a dog walker do?

A dog walker walks your dog for a scheduled amount of time, typically on a pre-determined route, to ensure they get sufficient exercise and can go to the bathroom while you are away. Dog walkers dispose of any waste from the walk, make sure your dog is safe and hydrated, and may also feed them upon request.

Most dogs do well with one 20- to 30-minute walk per day. Puppies and more active dogs typically need two or three walks per day and may need longer walks.

How do I choose the best dog walker near me?

When searching for a dog walker, be sure to:

  • Choose an experienced, insured dog walker who has a business license.
  • Look for members of professional organizations, such as the National association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS), Professional United Pet Sitters (P.U.P.S.), or the Association of Pet Sitting Excellence (APSE).
  • Check their reviews on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Ask for and check their references.
  • Arrange a meetup before the first walk to make sure he or she is a good fit for both you and your dog.

What questions should I ask when hiring a dog walker?

Ask the following questions to ensure you find the best dog walker near you:

  • What experience do you have?
  • Do you belong to any professional organizations?
  • Can we schedule a meet and greet beforehand?
  • What is included in your standard rate?
  • What is the rate if I have more than one dog?
  • Do you charge extra for specific breeds?
  • Do you offer any discounts or package deals?
  • How and when do I pay for your service?
  • Do you offer behavior training?
  • Are you trained in pet CPR?
  • What is your protocol if there is an emergency, and my dog needs immediate medical help?
  • How do I get in touch with you?
  • Do you update me after each walk?

Jeff helped us out when I was out of town a lot by taking Sunny on long walks with other dogs. She loves being social and the exercise keeps her from getting into mischief at home. He even taught her how to walk like a civilized dog on a leash! He would do a separate, slower paced walk with our blind dog FredE. My dogs get so much more from his visits than they do a doggie day care.

Great experience. She took care of my Shelties and my baby Zena before she passed. Zena was a rescue and afraid of Everything! With Codi Zena began coming out of her shell and was able to partially accept the affection she was being given by people and other dogs/cats.

Jessica has been amazing in training both myself and my little Toy Aussie puppy during the trying times of a pandemic. Every session together was super interesting. She has a wealth of knowledge around dog psychology and has such an amazing calm demeanor. Jessica imparts so much greatinformation. and gives great homework. I enjoyed every session with her and my pup has massively grown in confidence and has such joy in learning. I highly recommend Pack in Harmony Training.
