Nathan with Paint Studio SF did an excellent job painting a couple of rooms in my place here in the Mission and repairing/skim coating some damaged drywall. The walls had some rough patches before, and he resurfaced everything smooth before painting — the difference is huge, the rooms look so much better now. Really happy with the quality of the work and how much it improved the overall look of the space. He was professional, on time, and easy to communicate with throughout. Highly recommend for interior painting and drywall repair in San Francisco!

I also recommend using Farrow & Ball; it gave it a spectacular finish.

Nathan Bareman of Paint Studio SF should be avoided at all costs! Attached to this review are numerous photos of the physical property damage, but not included are the text messages he sent late on a Friday night. He reacted by displaying an outburst I have never witnessed in my over 20 years of working with professional painters. This all occurred because I questioned an invoice he sent and asked why he had not removed the trash created by the painting project.

He invoiced us for more than he originally quoted while leaving the job completely unfinished and damaging a light fixture, an antique ceiling medallion, door hardware, and several walls. As you can see in the photos, he left trash throughout the unit and in front of the building, including empty paint cans and other hazardous waste.

He was hours late on the first day and did not actually start working until the following day. When I checked in on the third day, he sent an incoherent text. When I arrived on day four (Friday), he was still working. I told him I would be back in an hour to do a final walkthrough at 3:00 PM, but he left before I returned. Later that evening, he sent an inflated invoice even though he had never finished the job.

I specifically instructed him not to paint the hardware on the doors. Instead, without warning, he painted the antique hardware white, directly against my instructions. When I called him on it, he used highly offensive and demeaning terminology in his text messages. When I asked him to remove the trash he created, he became highly combative and claimed the trash belonged to the house. When I asked him, Wasnt the house empty when you started? he launched into another intense outburst.

After all of that, he billed us for more than he quoted. For a half-completed job that damaged other parts of the home, the bill actually went up. This situation was so exhausting that we decided to pay him in full just to end the interaction. At that point, he demanded an additional $500 for his trouble.

You can verify his current professional standing directly on the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) website. His public business profile shows an inactive and expired license status following state board actions, alongside a documented history of trade and contract infractions. It is clear I am not the first person to have severe operational issues with Paint Studio SF and Nate Bareman. The photos of the resulting mess are attached. Read them and decide for yourself whether this is the type of operator you would let into your home.

I live in the Outer Sunset in San Francisco and hired Nate from Paint Studio SF for interior painting in my apartment. He worked with my budget and kept things reasonable, which I appreciated.

He took care of a bunch of small things that weren’t part of the original scope and didn’t make a big deal out of it. He fixed things I hadn’t really noticed before, but it made a big difference once it was done.

It turned out way better than I expected and the whole place just feels more put together now.

Nathan recently painted the interior of my home in Noe Valley and did a really nice job. He was careful, thorough, and clearly spent a lot of time on the prep. The walls and cabinets look great, the lines are clean, and he left the place spotless. He was also easy to work with and took pride in doing the job right. Really happy with the end result.

We hired Nathan to paint our San Francisco apartment and can’t recommend him highly enough. He was super collaborative and helpful in planning the project with us, and worked quickly and effectively to make it happen. When the scope of the project expanded slightly, he adapted right away and worked around our schedules at every stage. The final paint job looks incredible — we really couldn’t be happier. Nathan is amazing at what he does. He was very helpful in bringing my vision to life, as well as restoring the space through smoothing, filling, sanding of the trim and walls. He was very accommodating to the process of choosing the right paint and colors, as well as offering his own suggestions.
