Don R Titus, Residential Designer LLC
About
Whether you're planning a one-room addition or a brand-new custom home, a little fine-tuning of your residence or a complete transformation, I can apply my design expertise to your project, helping tailor the final result to fit your life.
Design is a process, one that can be unfamiliar if you haven't done it before. My job is to help you navigate that process: considering options, discovering opportunities and potential obstacles, and tying everything together into a finished work that is both functional and beautiful.
The design of homes has always been my passion; it's what attracted me at a young age to the architectural profession. I believe everyone deserves to live in a home they can love, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to help my clients accomplish that.
I have lived in Oregon my entire life, and in Portland since 2004. I love the climate and geography of the northwest, and feel blessed to have been born here. I currently live in southeast Portland with my wife and children.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I often begin with an initial consultation, either in your home or at my office. My fee for this initial consultation is typically in the range of $200-$300, depending on your location, or complimentary if you’d prefer to meet at my office.
After our meeting, I can offer you a proposal for my services, and if we decide to work together the initial fee paid will be deducted from my overall fee. Or, if you prefer, we can discuss your project by phone or email, and I can offer you a proposal prior to our first meeting.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My design background includes a wide variety of residential and commercial building types, with hundreds of satisfied clients, and as many projects completed in dozens of cities and counties throughout Oregon and Washington. I am also knowledgeable about green design strategies and earned my LEED accreditation in 2007.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at the University of Oregon in 2002, and (starting while still in school) worked with various architecture and design firms for nearly nine years before starting my own business in early 2009.
How did you get started in this business?
The design of homes has always been my passion; it's what attracted me at a young age to the architectural profession. I believe everyone deserves to live in a home they can love, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to help my clients accomplish that.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work most often with homeowners, but also with property developers, rental owners, and general contractors.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for an architect or designer who listens to you and understands your priorities. If you're trying to decide between more than one professional, make sure when you compare their proposals that you understand what services they are offering, rather than just looking at their proposed fee. One might charge more than another, but may also provide a higher level of service. Talk to them about the level of service you need so they can adjust their proposal accordingly.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What are your priorities for your home? For example, you might say: lots of light, a certain feel like 'cozy' or 'modern,' a certain style, etc.
What is your construction budget?
Do you have a goal for when you'd like construction to begin and/or finish?
